Use what ever the owners manual calls for. Around here ( U.S.) that would mean 87. I have no idea where you are or what rating system you use.

wow 98 octane? Where do you live?

Here in Canada, we have 87, 89, 91 and some stations have 94.

I primarily use Shell V-Power (91).

That would be true in the US but depends on how the gasoline is rated over there: Motor, Research (how gasoline was rated before about 1975), or PON (Pump Octane Number or R+M/2) something the US uses to confuse the natives.

Good rule of thumb is PON is about 4 numbers below Research so 87 is about 91 old style, 89 is 93, and 93 is 97. This would make the old style 98 octane premium about 94 here today. 89 is an old style regular and 87 is just trash.

Octane has nothing to do with energy, just knock resistance so the most economical is the one the engine runs best on though for long Interstate trip with a light load in cool weather you can probably drop a grade. Just avoid flooring it. A higher grade than needed is just financing the oil companies and using more crude than you need to.

For more than you ever wanted to know, see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

Using anything over 87 (US) is a complete waste. If anything you're diminishing performance. The truck is designed to run on 87, not 91/93.

You didn't read the web site: "
  • Saudi Arabia: Two types of fuel are available at all gas stations in Saudi Arabia. "Premium 91" (RON 91) where the pumps are coloured green, and "Super Premium 95" (RON 95) where the pumps are coloured red. While gas stations in Saudi Arabia are privatized, the prices are regulated by the authorities and have a fixed at S.A.R. 0.45 (U.S. $0.12) and S.A.R. 0.60 (U.S. $0.16) per litre respectively.
91 RON (Research Octane Number) is very close to the US 87 PON (R+M/2). We haven't seen prices like that since the 1960's.

BTW since the V6 is a flex-fuel engine it should be able to accomodate octanes over 100. I doubt that you will feel a difference unless the engine gets quite hot.
