Weird Radio/Navigation Issue
Hey everyone,

I had the oddest thing happen to me on the way home the other day with my JGC. I've got a 13' Overland 5.7 with the Nav system. On my way home, the sound went away completely as well as the voice activation button stopped working. Also, I had a CD in the player and it wouldn't read it at all. Now, all of the other buttons, and navigation was working.

At first I tried restarting the stereo... Then I tried that 50 times as I was in traffic and had nothing better to do but get frustrated and hit the button

Second, I tried shutting down the vehicle and restarting it while at a stop light. Still

Third, I tried shutting it down, opening the door to completely kill all of the accessories and still

Lastly, I got home, sat in my parking spot, opened the door on the jeep and hit the start button 4-5 times, just cycling it through multiple start ups. Around the 5th time, the monitor flashed, the clock reset itself, and everything started working again

I have no idea what was wrong. I even called the dealership and of course I get the usual "Well, if it's working now, we probably can't figure it out" BS. Whatever, lol.

Has anyone run into a similar issue like this? I only have around 2800 miles on this thing.

Re: Weird Radio/Navigation Issue
I've never had the RHR cut out on me after it was up and running, but I've had it fail to start up completely. However, I've concluded that happens only when I try to start the bluetooth connection to my iPhone before the Jeep's electronics have had enough time to fully cycle on. I now wait for a minute or so before I connect my phone to avoid any chance of screwing up the start up cycle.

Re: Weird Radio/Navigation Issue
You may have thought you were reseting the radio, but you probably weren't. The RHR doesn't power down on power off until the CAN bus resets which is like 5-10 minutes after the car is turned off an you leave the vehicle. The most assured way to reset the radio is removing the radio fuse. I had the Nav lock up on the NJ turnpike one time. The only way it would reset was by removing the fuse.

Thanks for the info ColdCase. If it happens again, I'll try to shut it down, walk away for 5-10 minutes and see what happens. And then try pulling the fuse.

i had the exact same thing happen to me in my '13 Overland, after owning for only aobut 1 week. Drove directly to dealer, they witnessed it, and by the time it got back to service, started working again. Wierd.

Re: Weird Radio/Navigation Issue
That's very interesting. Did you have a ticket filed directly with Chrysler to track the issue? I haven't had it happen since to note.

Re: Weird Radio/Navigation Issue
I don't believe a ticket was filed with Chrysler. They supposedly did reset the radio and checked to ensure it had the latest updates, which it did. The radio does do some odd things from time to time. Will watch it closely
