ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY GROUP (ADG) any reason to get it? Lower insurance rate?

Dealer told me today most of his Overlands are coming with ADG. I have ZERO motivation to pay the $1500 invoice on that option. Is it useful? I was thinking maybe since it in theory makes you a safer driver if it can lower insurance rates vs an Overland that doesn't have it?

I seriously doubt insurance would be affected. But the features are really nice once you have them...

That said, if you don't want that package, then order a vehicle that is configured the way you want it.

I was skeptical at first, but if you do a lot of highway driving, you will be much less tired after driving hours using the adaptive cruise. The WK2 does not have a whole lot of outward visibility with smaller window and large pillars. The side looking radar of the blind spot and cross path detection are a godsend. If you drive often in a situation where you are merging onto the highway while following other cars, the forward collision warning system warns you when the car in front stops while you are looking over your shoulder. I don't know how I've lived all those years without those features.

The advanced brake assist takes up the slack in the brake system when you leave of the throttle, so the brake response time is shortened a split second on a panic stop. It may actually apply a bit of braking, but I dunno. Sounds good in theory.

If you never drive in those situations, probably not as useful. The systems do work pretty well.

As far as insurance rates, you may pay less over the long run by avoiding all those accidents that bump your rate :).

I didn't get it and I'm so happy I have that $1,500 or so in my bank account. I have a rental now with all of that technology safety stuff and I think it's stupid and annoying. Won't get it on any future vehicles either.

You do know you can turn off most of the annoying audio. I turned off park sense because it was so annoying, but the backup camera does that job nicely. The rare brake or cross path false alarm can be annoying if I'm in an irritable mood, otherwise its just one of those things.

No sounds on. Just don't like the flashing color reminders. I can drive just fine without all of this. The mirror blind spot detectors (yellow triangles) are nice in the Overland I test drove a long time ago, but not for that price, for me anyway.

I sometimes wish I had it, especially when driving on the highway. At the same time, I worry that if I did have it, I would become too trusting of it and that is when it would mess up.

If I were doing it over again, I'd get it. $1500 out of a $50,000 truck is nothing.

Luv it on my SRT. Worth every penny!

Worth every penny? Please explain.

Further, is this option that in demand that dealers want their inventory with it? At first impression it seems like an "annoying" $1500 option.

People looking at Overland and other high dollar and high end models will typically want all the options they can get, safety equipment especially. Not having it is a reason for a potential customer to buy from someone else who does have a truck on their lot with it.

I have the ADG on my '11, and it's really a nice thing to have. the blind-spot monitors are an extra peace-of-mind, and the adaptive cruise itself is something that you don't miss until you use it! Very convenient for uneven traffic flows common on the autobahn over here. I'd really love it more when it gets stop-and-go, but even without, extremely handy.

Bottom line, it's one of those extras that you won't miss until you have it, then you won't want to do without.
