Pioneer AVH-X1500 Receiver install pics

I couldn't really find a lot of info on installing a double din receiver in a WK2 so I decided I would make a thread with pics after I installed mine.

About 2 months ago after many many hours of research online I decided the Pioneer AVH-X1500 DVD receiver was right for me. I don't need bluetooth or HD radio so the '1500 is great. This receiver has an 8 band EQ, 6.1" 800 x 480 display and full iPod/iPhone control.

To install the Pioneer radio and to keep my factory steering wheel buttons working I got the PAC RP4-CH11

If you want to watch a video on the Pioneer radio you must engage the e-brake as a safety precaution... yea to me that feels like parental controls. Reminds me of how certain nav features are only available at low speeds in my dad's LS460. So I installed a Micro Bypass which tricks the receiver into thinking the e-brake is always on. Oh and I don't actually watch videos while I drive.

I keep my old iPhone 4 plugged into the receiver through a Pioneer usb cable

Here are pics of the install process. Don't hesitate to ask any questions at all.

The sound quality of my stock 6 speaker system has improved dramatically. There's much more detail and crispness to my music now. I can't wait to get a sub and at some point swap out the door speakers with much nicer ones. I've never done any wiring before and though it did take me awhile for the entire install process I enjoyed it. People ask me where I had my radio installed and I smile and tell them I did it myself. It only looks hard to do, anyone can do this stuff.

Nice! Thanks for sharing. It was the direction I was leaning on before but I found a good deal on a OEM unit first. Are you going to put a big sub box or something small that you can try and hide? I like the stealthbox but can't justify (yet) the $$ associated with it :)

I looked at the stealth box and I can't justify spending $650 when I want a 12" sub in a ported box anyway. I can get a JL 12 and a nice box for $350. I plan on mounting the box in the trunk.

Well that looks familiar! lol

I swapped out EVERYTHING! Headunit, speakers, wiring, etc. Super happy with my aftermarket setup! ;)

I bet haha, the P2400 isn't a whole lot different than mine.

I will get there someday.. why can't we start getting quality audio straight from the factory?

Greetings,

That's Chrysler for you. If you get their current premium systems, upgrading is not the same from years ago when they made it user friendly.

Either you have to get the 2014 Overland Summit or SRT to get the Harman which is a few steps up.

Best for now.:)

Did you trim any of the bezel, or dash kit or anything. I read on a few other post's that they had to do a little trimming in order to get the head unit to fit. This is where I'm a little worried. Ive installed plenty of systems into plenty of different cars but never had to do any trimming. Any tips or suggestions on tools that would make it easier for me? btw that unit looks great I was looking at purchasing the same one!

You trim the inside of the dash (non visible once the trim bezel is back on). So nothing to worry about. It's easy and you can't see it.

I used a dremel to trim the substructure and it wasn't bad at all. Don't worry if your cuts aren't perfect, as Rage said, nothing will be visible when you're done.

I recommend getting a rag slightly wet and placing it in the dash before using the dremel. The rag will catch all of the little pieces of plastic as you are opening up that hole. Work slowly with the dremel and you'll be fine, even if it doesn't come out as good as you'd like it to remember you can't see it!
