LOL post #2 says it all: "To me, comparing a jeep to the Benz is insulting."

Every time I pull up next to an ML350 I laugh.

What do you want to do about it? Bash MB on here, create an account on there site with the username "MBsucks" and throw a link on the thread to here?

Re: Can you believe these guys

Those Benz owners sound like typical Rolex owners....they buy for the "prestige" of a three point star (or the gold Rolex crown) flashing the symbol of "success" as they define it. As typical of most Rolex owners, they don't buy because they enjoy the history or engineering of the product or how it was made, but what they achieve from rolling down the road with their noses in the air (and their heads up the rear)---When one pays $24,000 more for a vehicle, one has to justify it no matter how ridiculous. Those ML's are not the most reliable vehicles around---maintenance is very costly for essentially the same service. But oh, they get their vehicles washed at the dealer----BIG DEAL. MY dealer offers to wash my vehicle each time as well---but then I've given them 7 sales to the same dealer in the past 10 years---and I purchase the service contract and extended warranty.

I recall about 2 years ago I was having a stogie at my favorite cigar lounge when this guy pulled up in his Aston Martin. He drew a crowd. He popped the hood so the lowly mere mortals can see how beautiful his vehicle looked and pay homage to his exquisite taste and affluence. He was drinking it in. I said it's just a pimped out Jaguar XKR. He was very insulted. He retorted, "The Aston Martin is hand built." Oh really? Does it not use the same 4.4 liter super charged engine? Does it not share the same chassis and body work as the Jag? I said "Do you really believe gthat? For $170,000 they better tell you that it's handmade." He huffed and puffed and left never to return.

Never mind these ML owners. They have to justify their expenditure, their "exclusitivity" for a mass produced vehicle no different than any other luxury crowd. Yes, the service at the dealer ought to be better---they charge enough for it.....for that price I expect the car wash to be done by rather well endowed vixesn wearing nothing but soap suds and a hot oil massage by the same afterwards.

Just like those typical Rolex owners flashing the bling to wow the hoi polloi....

I apologize if I offended some MB owners here and I see a lot of JGC owners who also own MB, BMW, Audis, and other high end brands. But then, if you also own other high end brands and JGC, you're not the typical nose in the air MB owner, right?

The comments ain't that bad TBH, considering it's a MB forum:)

Post #2 though, I think that guy needs a slap!

Most of the Mercedes Benz owners have ML with what engine? Yes you guessed it, the diesel! So what does that say, the Jeep never had a chance, but now that all about to change:)

Mercedes benz customer service in the sates might be good, but it's crap in the UK, that's one of the reasons I never went ahead with the drop top e-class and bought a new Audi S5 instead. Mercedes benz I think is nice quality, but fancy leather stitching will only go so far i'm afraid, and does it really warrant the high prices...

..Saying that however, The Grand Cherokee in the UK is not that much cheaper than the ML, an equally equipped ML in the UK 350D with AMG kit would cost around 55k and the S-Limited is 47K, the price gap in the state is a lot greater though.

Just because something is more in price doesn't mean it's better!

The reference thread is like from 2011??? Is the OP trying to sell MBs? One post... hmmm...

Yeah, there was a time when MB made a well built vehicle, but economies have forced them into more mundane mass production. MBs in Germany are like our Ferds in the US, a cheap transportation appliance. But I once saw a SL convertible flip at 120 mph, driver walked away with a couple bruises, just some scratched paint on the MB. Most of their models are solidly built and heavy. The MB factory seemed to never trust mere mortals working on their vehicles, however. The make repair documentation difficult or costly to come by and require endless special tools.... or a big hammer :)

There are quite a few MB enthusiasts that are not typical Rolex owners and the tips and support their forums supply are top rate. I owned an SLK for like 15 years and there are a lot of good eggs there. One guy there, for example, figured out how to rebuild the top hydraulics with about $100 in parts as an alternative to paying a dealer $5000 for the job.

You would have been wrong about the Aston Martin. They don't use the same body work or engines as Jag, most of them actually use V12s rather than V8s.

The reality is, the Jeep is a great product. No it's not as nice inside as the MB (can be loaded out to), they have leather and leatherette in places where we have hard plastic. They have engines that deliver more power, and better performance than ours. They have one of the best transmissions on the market. They have included service ad dealerships that treat you awesome.

But they don't feel tough and durable like the Jeep, they feel like a car that has a higher roof line. Their styling is OK, but not rugged like the original WK2 (I prefer the ML to the '14s). I'm not gonna knock the ML and say people are stupid for buying it - their priorities and desires are just different than mine. They bought great vehicles, and so did we, and it's not like they're not getting extras that we aren't for the difference in price.

I cross shopped them both, as did a lot of people. The ruggedness of the Jeep sealed the deal for me, I wanted a truck moreso than a family wagon. Other people would prefer something that rides more like a sedan. Both vehicles are great choices, but the MB is built by NON-UNION southerners, while the Jeep is built by corrupt UAW workers.

All the same, I made the right choice getting my Jeep.

I traded a MB on the JGC.

I never found the dealership experience rewarding. I had the same fights with the service departments that you have everywhere else.

The Vantage V8 (4.3 and 4.7) is based on the normally aspirated Jaguar 4.2 V8. They are not supercharged. While they do share some chassis components, they do not share any body panels.

Re: Can you believe these guys

I am sure there are differences here and there between the Aston and the Jag, but no doubt this gentleman was more concerned about impressing everyone with his bank account than truly enjoying his vehicle. And I just wanted to pop his bubble because I am that type of guy. :D

We ought to buy what we want and what fits our needs, and we ought to enjoy it without needing to be snobbish----and thankfully I don't see that on this forum--just very well informed folks.
