Lexus Steps Ahead Of The Competition In JD Power 2013 Vehicle Dependability Study - AutoSpies Auto News

Those are the results of the 2013 JD Power Vehicle dependability study of 2010 model year vehicles. Jeep (and dodge/chrysler) still seem to be bottom of the barrel. What is more concerning is that the Chrysler brands improved very little from 2011; despite all the talk of quality improvements they improved less than the industry average.
What are peoples' comments/thoughts on this? I am not trying to start a flame war, just posting information to stimulate conversation on this important matter.

I can attest that my '12 WK2 Laredo has not been reliable in the first 13 months of ownership.

have had two 11' overlands the last 2.5 plus years with over 60k miles, all the bells and whistles aka more stuff that can break....so far so good.

Re: Reliability

26 months / 16K miles on mine with no issues. Came from 4runners that never needed anything but gas, oil and tires.

I took a leap of faith with my first American brand and am very pleased to date... I love my GC. But if reliability gremlins pop up, I will part ways with it. Got no time to fool with non reliable transportation.

I thought about a 4runner when I purchased my Grand Cherokee. However I went back and forth on whether I liked the 5th Gen 4Runner design. How would you compare the two?

Re: Reliability

Would the 2010 model year (released in 2009) really give the "new" Chrysler enough time to make reliability improvements? I wouldn't expect them to be made until the 2011 model year (which also happens to be the first model year for the WK2) across the board, unless I'm remembering my dates wrong here.

Mine has a lot of little electrical issues. Buttons that dont work, or only work sporadically, etc

I'm always skeptical about the reliability of opinion polls.

Re: Reliability

This is a survey of 2010 model year vehicles, meaning vehicles sold in 2009 and designed sometime around 2006. It has nothing to do with the WK2.

JD Power is hardly an "opinion poll"...

From the link:

The 2013 Vehicle Dependability Study is based on responses from more than 37,000 original owners of 2010 model-year vehicles after three years of ownership.
In other words, their opinions.

Re: Reliability

I've owned my 2012 since March 2012.

I've got 11,000 miles on it and it does go offroad (not driveway jewelry)

The only problem I have is the stupid SAND mode malfunction where they vehicle throws a SERV 4WD error.

So far there has been no concrete information on a resolution or if there is even a resolution for US based customers which is annoying.
