2013 & 2014 Jeep SRT gearing comparison

I'm not sure if anybody has posted something like this yet or not. I was curious what the difference was between the two transmissions so I took a few minutes to make the calculations. Below you can take a quick look to compare the difference between the 5 spd and 8 spd.

So... 200+ Top Speed?:brows::joke: Should help out with MPG's a bit though. Anybody post MPG info yet?

One thing that jumped out at me is that the 2014 should be more comfortable on the highway. 59 mph at 2000 rpm in top gear for the 2013 and 73 mph at 2000 rpm for the 2014. That should also make a decent difference for fuel economy.

I assume that 230+mph is in a vacuum seeing as its 180+ on the old SRT where it would gear out at like 168mph I think it was. So I wouldn't doubt we could possibly see near 200mph in this thing. How awesome would that be, the first factory Jeep to 200mph!

Yes, this is just factoring in engine rpm, axle gear ratio, transmission gear ratios, and tire size. It doesn't address power requirements to reach top speed. It is only a gearing theoretical top speed.

i.e. for my ISF the theoretical top speed at redline in 8th gear is 260 mph.

Right. I was just doing a very rough comparison of the 5speed theoretical TS compared to its actual and then transferring that over to this 8speed. I know it wont do 230 haha, but I do forsee it running well into the 190s, maybe 200 with some aero work and some bolt ons :D

I HIGHLY doubt that 200 MPH or even the 190 mark... There is a video on youtube where the 2013 Shelby (672HP and 617TQ) would hit 199ish. Mustangs by nature are more aerodynamic than a Jeep SRT, and that Shelby has a 200HP advantage and could barely do it...

Yeah thats a good point. Not sure on the gearing differences. Only reason I was quicik to support the 190+mph claim is that I heard from an inside source at Jeep that I know has driven the 2012's and 2013s on the Autobahn and he said he had one up to almost 190mph and thats was the 5speed. Not sure if he was bsing me or what but yeah 190+ may be a reality.

I am currently stationed in Germany, and you would be pretty hard-pressed to find a stretch of road like that. The track for the Mustang was 5 miles long and it barely got it. On the SRT show on SPEED Channel, the host got one to 162 MPH (on the Autobahn), and it seemed to top out pretty much...

Near top speed, every extra mph will take time to be reached, even more so in a big SUV, and as you mentionned it would take a very long and desert piece of Autobahn to actually find out the "real" top speed on open roads.

I would think german authorities don't mind auto testers "stretching the legs" of fast cars/trucks on the autobahn every now and then, but I am not so sure they would be happy seeing someone trying to establish some sort of speed record in a given make and model and showing it on TV afterwards...

I dont think that if they are on "the longest unrestricted portion ever of the Autobahn" (what it would take), that the "authorities" could do anything even if they wanted. Unrestricted is just that...

I have traveled 225KPH in my Challenger (limited from the factory), and got passed pretty bad by a Ferarri... He had to be going at least 300KPH (186MPH).
