New windscreen. Wiper rain sensor fault

Had a new windscreen installed in Kalgoorlie, No O'Brien's here.

Now every time I start my car the wipers do 1 wipe. Now the other day we had a little rain it would not wipe until the screen was so wet I could not see out, let it go after the first wipe and then had to go to manual wipe.

Antone herd of this?
Called jeep and asked if there was a calibration to be done. None that they are aware of.

I can't remember which forum, but I remember reading a thread where some one in Aus had their windscreen replaced with an aftermarket one and had no end of trouble with the auto wipers not working, playing up.
He ended up having to get a genuine windscreen to solve the problem

May pay to unclip the clear plastic covers just under the mirror to make sure that nothing is loose and that everything is seated properly in there.

Having said that, I am not really sure how they work. Is it just a sensor through the windscreen or is the windscreen "wired" somehow?

I think for others getting a new windscreen, it maybe best to insist on an OEM version rather than aftermarket, even if you have to wait. (Some may not be able to).

Unfortunately you may have been the test that will help others.

I was under the impression that the rain sensor was located on the inside of the screen, incorporated into the mirror. It works by sensing distortion on the screen surface. If the wipers are playing up, I would firstly suspect the mirror fitting. There must be something on Google about it.

I thought I read somewhere that someone had a similar problem and the lens on the back of the mirror was just dirty. Try giving it a wipe and see if anything changes.

the sensor is part of the windscreen.
They showed me the old one

Funny enough, I had my windscreen replaced with an OEM one by O'Brians yesterday. I got a crack just around the mirror, but no impact damage. Jeep denied a warranty claim, so I got it done FoC through insurance.

They replaced it fine, but I am also getting the one wipe special when I start the car. Screen is clean, so I do not know what is causing it.
If you find out Laurie, let me know as well.

BMW E38 Rain Sensitive Wiper Sensor Repair
might give you some insight to the sensors. Note it is not from a Jeep

Can you check the markings.
Is it definitely a Mopar?

1 Attachment(s)
Cleaned under the sensor did not fix anything.
I am sure there must be a calibration for it.

Attachment 19942

Re: New windscreen. Wiper rain sensor fault

I can confirm that mine is a MOPAR branded screen. I did specifically ask for OEM.
O'Brians wanted to fit their brand, but I had to get approval for the OEM one.
I still get the 1 wipe every time the car starts and the screen looks clean around the rain sensor.

Re: New windscreen. Wiper rain sensor fault

I am not sure if the rain sensor takes time to re-calibrated, but my wipers have not faulted for the past 2 days. Weird....
