Where to mount HID ballasts in a WK without removing bumper

Hello forum,

I just bought an HID kid for my 2008 WK (low beams). The installation in terms of connections seems pretty straight forward, however, I cannot figure out where the best place to mount the ballasts/wires. I did a search for HID installs but none of the threads provide clear pictures or a thorough DIY. I DO NOT want to remove my bumper.

Could anyone advise me on where the best place to mount the ballasts along with the wires for the relays? There is hardly any room. My ballasts do not have any double stick tape. All I have are zip ties and a few screws. Also, I do not want to drill into any metal because it will rust.

Please advice on what my easiest option is. Thank You all in advance.

i will not rust if you repaint it or cover it in silicone.

i dont really feel comfortable drilling and repainting (also, if i need to remove the hids later i dont want there to be holes either).

is there any industrial tape i can buy at home depot so that i can just stick the ballasts to something?

3M foam two way tape will work, but bolting them on is real the safest way. currently mine are only taped on due to the cold but as soon as its warm i am going to bolt them on because i do not trust tape alone.

If you take off the grill right behind the front bumper there kind of a shelf which I had mine on. I can't find any pics at the moment, but I know Frankie (xoxstugotsxox) has some pics of his and ours were in the same place.

I had a roll of flexible, bendable-by-hand sheet-metal sittin in the garage with pre-cut holes every 1/2" or so that was about 3/4" wide that I bent vertically around both ballasts and zip-tied running between the holes of the metal horizontally so secure the ballast snug, then left about 5" or so extra at the top and ran one of the existing bolts (any of the bolts on or next to the headlight housings) through the sheet metal and the ballasts hang below and behind the headlight assembly but are secure and I haven't had any problems since the install Christmas Day.

Will try to get a pic up later if I can remember and the metal can be easily found at any of the big box hardware stores (Lowes, Home Depot, Menards, etc.)

I use 3M two way tape(red one) for my ballasts. I got the ultra slim ones though that don't weigh anything. They are mounted on a pillar just behind the headlights. And for the moment they sit there tight as a rock.
But if you have the big heavy ballasts I don't recommend you using tape, because sooner or later they will probably fall off.

You're asking for easiest so I'll tell you.. remove your bumper. You really open up a lot of working space when you do.

It took me a whopping 10 minutes (probably less) to remove the bumper my first time. You'll likely spend double that trying to finagle around with the ballast without removing the bumper. Just giving you the best advice I can give.

I will take pix of my install ... it was easy and simple I zip tied on the cross member that goes between the battery and the headlamp assembly ... used two zip ties on each side ... it has snowed and rained here and no problem at all

Whoops, just realized this was your low beams. Non need to remove the bumper (maybe the grille though for relay wiring).

I have a link in my sig (HID Installation) - I mounted my drivers one to a factory bolt (pictured) and I mounted my passenger ballast using 3 heavy-duty zip ties to the factory bolting location for the intake box (aftermarket intake installed). I prefer bolting (3 of my 4 ballasts are bolted to the vehicle using facoty holes), but for simplicity (and lack of slack on the relay harness) I just used multiple zip ties. I would highly recommend NOT using double sided tape. You are only asking for trouble.

You will need to remove your grill but with the way I did mine you do not need to remove the bumper for the lows or fogs...

lows fit perfectly underneath the black plastic under the headlight housing...I did not even need 2X tape or zip-ties to secure it!
