I just recently started my search for a new large SUV.

We currently have a 2010 VW Tiguan which has served us great but we had a kid 2 years ago and we just need more room when we take trips.

I started to consider the 2013 Dodge Durango and the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. One thing i noticed with the Dodge and the Jeep is that you can spec them out as base models (4WD) and add features such as NAV to them - Something you cannot do with other manufactures which annoys me to no end, they want to up-sell you to a higher-end model to get those features, or even options to add them.

Looking over the documentation that is on this site it looks like the option to spec out a lower-end model with Navigation. Is that correct?

If so, it looks like i'd be forced to go with a 2013 of either or find another vehicle to look at.

Just can't bring myself to purchase a loded up model, however much I would like to own one I just can't spend the money. :) Any pointers would be much appreciated.

You can order a laredo E with nav, it optional with RA3 radio. I almost went with a laredo but I wanted adaptive cruise control.

Seems decent, if I can add NAV - But I cannot find the option under Laredo or E. I only see the below under Limited Options:

For the Laredo E, your only choice for nav is to get the RA3 and have the optional navigation feature enabled by the dealer after delivery. Will run $600, and will be missing a couple of the RA4 nav features (such as 3D and Sensor-assisted GPS).

I assume this dealer activated feature is just some firmware activation? It is still the Garmin interface (minus 3D and Sensor-assisted GPS as you mentioned)? Do you have any links that detail this? I'll try searching for some details.

** Additional Information Update **

After doing some research I found that the information above is correct, however another feature missing from the RA3 upon activation is Travel Link which is only in the RA4. So I guess that is something else lost over the 2013's. :(

I just had another look at these radio choices

I would be getting the RA4 anyways but I wonder if the SRT radio is different. But it just occured to me that it is not another model - just a run of the mill RA4 that will have the performance pages enabled. If so, that means...those performance pages could theoretically unlocked and assuming no other hardware is missing (such as some OBD-2 interface hardware) we could have them too.
