Towing with a WK

Last week I towed a 6x12 enclosed u-haul trailer to Florida from New Hampshire with my 06 Hemi. I was a little worried because it weighed just under 5k loaded and that 4 bolt hitch seemed a little hokey ? compared to the ones that attach on both frame rails.

But I should not have worried about it ;)

The Jeep towed great! Other than a little push/pull over bumps and the gas mileage ;( would not have known it was there...

no waggling at all.

gas mileage was 13.5 or so in the beginning but the further we got the more comfortable we felt and of the course the faster we went ;) we where down to 12 when we got to florida cruising at 80+

Best quote of the ride from my wife.....

Me: Honey your going 80!!!
Wife: dead pan answer....Just trying to get away from the jerk in the uhual truck riding my bumper..

06 Hemi w 143k and still going strong

last summer i was towing a 16 foot tandem axle enclosed trailer on an interstate in ohio. trailer weighed ~3k lbs and was loaded with ~4k lbs of crap. i was running over 80mph and i couldn't tell i was pulling anything either. some guy passed me and started pointing and making funny faces at me. i pulled over and had blown a tire. it was shredded all the way down to the rim.

oops about the tire, your lucky that thing could have caught on fire ;)

Was this with the hitch that just bolts to the back cross member behind the bumper ?

If your wife is anything like mine, she probably thought of that great line about 1 hour in and was just DYING for you to walk into it... AND ya did.

A hemi would be nice but my smokin deal was on a 4.7 and it has been more than sufficient! Great to hear people using and enjoying these "horrible chrysler products"!

I've done 6,000LBS (Our boat) for about 2 hours on mine. Just make sure you have Overdrive on and you should be fine. Be easy driving it obviously.

I had tow/haul on the whole time, which seems to lock me out of 5th gear as well as hold the gear longer when shifting. I also noticed it downshifts when your slowing down i assume to utilize some engine braking.

This was a 1488 mile journey.... well at least the trailering part ;) this didn't seem to effect engine temp at all, gauge never moved off it's normal spot...

I always thought the rule was NO overdrive when towing? No?.. I tow with mine, 1600 miles at 3000 lbs...trailer and two bikes..... No,probs... Bought some product for the receiver that locks the tow shank in place, so no annoying rattling......can't remember the name of it though... I love it. Here it is.... http://www.softride.com/towing-products/
