Do Not install 2.404 & 2013 map updates

Notice to all RER owners:

DO NOT install 2.404 software update or the 2013 map updates from Navteq/Chrysler. It will disable your Sirius Traffic & all traffic conditions on your navigation maps.
Navteq & Chrysler & dealership are burying their heads & pointing to each other.

DO NOT buy/order/install the latest map updates from Navteq/Chrysler (2.404)!!!

Re: Do Not install 2.404 & 2013 map updates

I talked to Sirius about the issue, they said the traffic services turned off because the new software detected that I had not subscribed to the service after my one year trial period ran out (which I hadn't). They said they could enable it if I paid for the subscription (about $4 a month).
After the kind of responses I received from Navagation.com and Jeep, I wouldn't put too much stock in the answer, but it sounds reasonable.

I never paid attention to the traffic service, often it was wrong or too late to help, so the problem is not an issue with me, even though I would like for all nav features to work.

I was going to get the navteq updates this month for my rer with 2.404 already installed. the traffic icon has always annoyed me and I could not use the service anyway in my area.

so, are you saying that the new navteq updates disable the sirius traffic? if so, then great, I'd like to get rid of the silly icon. :)

I'd be very interested if Sirius could enable it if you paid. I have an active subscription and they've tried for two weeks to enable me since I loaded 2.404 and they've been unable. The biggest steamer is that the 2.404 overwrites the original software that worked---and there's no way to get back to it so now I'm stuck with this turd.

Does not remove the icon, it turns the icon orange.

Charger Tom - Sorry to hear you cannot get traffic back, obviously the service rep I talked to was taking a best (wrong) guess. I assume you can't just reinstall v2.402?

I wish I could but I don't have the original software---it was pre-loaded. And then overwritten. One of the suggestions I made to one of the numerous clueless 'techs" over the phone was for Navteq to send me 2.403 discs which apparently Sirius Traffic can communicate with, unlike 2.404. It wasn't anywhere on his script so I'm still waiting for "their" solution.

my annoying sirius traffic icon has been a prominent orange for many versions before 2.404

2.403 is available via online download.

Re: Do Not install 2.404 & 2013 map updates

Charger Tom & all -

After 36+ years in software development, this really bugged me so I spent 7 1/2 hours in my car yesterday & today & here is the solution to THEIR problem.
I was able to retro-grade to 2.402 OS (you can!) with the 2013 maps upgrade (N311 1214 3.5.0) loaded & no traffic. I then retro-graded to the 2011 maps upgrade (N210 1051 3.4.0) & the traffic all re-appeared. Not satisfied, I upgraded to 2.404 OS with the 2011 maps upgrade & the traffic continued to work. I upgraded to the 2013 maps upgrade & the traffic died again. Once again a retro-grade to the 2011 maps upgrade & all traffic worked fine again (about 30 seconds for it to reset in the open).

Final analysis: Chrysler/Navteq owes me big-time. The 2.404 OS upgrade (2013 - most recent) is fine. The culprit is the 2013 maps upgrade (USA N311 1214 3.5.0, product code - U3540-0075-203).

DO NOT install this disc if you use the traffic conditions on the navigation map or the Sirius Traffic.

Charger Tom - go in to the dealer & have him re-install the 2011 maps upgrade (USA N210 1051 3.4.0, product code - U0035-0070-101) & leave the 2.404 OS upgrade alone. The traffic will reappear very shortly thereafter!!!

Re: Do Not install 2.404 & 2013 map updates

Lambo, that's an amazing story and yes, I agree, Chrysler and Navteq owe you some consultancy fees. It's kind of sad that they couldn't go through a similar process. Doesn't say much for technical rigor at their end. Many thanks and one last question: is there any way for a non-36+ year-software-genius-guy like me to retro-grade to 2011 maps without going to dealer?---I don't have any other discs...

Re: Do Not install 2.404 & 2013 map updates

I think the 2011 maps are still available to purchase (product code U0035-0070-101) if not thru Chrysler/Navteq then definitely thru eBay (probably for a significantly less price)...
Here is an interesting link (I don't have any idea if this is good or not):

http://www.downeu.net/n/navteq+u0035+0070+101

and another:

Hope they work!
