Transfer case stuck in 4high??

My daughters 2001 Grand Cherokee Laredo is stuck in 4high and I was hoping you knowledgeable folks might be able to point me in the right direction to do a DIY repair. I used the search function which took me to the stickies but I did not see anything there that addresses this problem.
Thank you in advance.

Happy four wheeling

Re: Transfer case stuck in 4high??

Which T-case does it have? Was it used regulary and did it suddenly stop working, or wasnīt it used for a long time? Did you try it with the jeep rolling slowly?
If it really doesnīt want to move, you need to find out if the problem is in the T-case, or maybe a binding cable. For that you need to remove the cable end from the T-case and see if the lever then moves freely or not.

Sorry it took so long to reply, I have no idea what transfer case it has, but I will find out tomorrow. I will also do the slow roll to neutral and see if that works, the 4x4 has only been engaged one time according to my daughter and that was the day we got it. I wanted to see if it went in smoothly. So I really can't say with 100% certainty that she never used it. I will be under the hood and under the truck tomorrow to see what I find.
I will post my findings. Once again thank you for all the help

Re: Transfer case stuck in 4high??

On my jeep (NV 247 T-case) i can just put the tranny in N and the T-case can be put in 4-Lo, but i heard from others that it will only work when slowly rolling.
Have a look also for the fluid level in the T-case and when the fluid was not changed for a while, i would put some fresh fluid in, that could help as well.

Hopefully by evening I should have some sort of answer to this, I'll check and do a top off on the t-case. Thanks for the suggestions
