Laredo E With 17"Wheels/Tires OK?

I like the Laredo E as it is. My only question is -How much of a difference will the 18" wheel/tire option make? It is a $1400 option and there is nothing else in the option package that I care about. Does the JGK ride/drive/handle/look that much better with 18" wheels or will I be just as happy using 17" as a daily driver (no off road but I live in the northeast with snow) Thanks for any help.

I think it's worth getting different wheels. The 18s look much better. I'd suggest these new 20 Overland wheels (2013 style) and tires at a great price though: Jeep Grand Cherokee Wheels & Tires Only $1182 + shipping of $149 and they come road force balanced. If you e-mail OEWheels (see vendor section of this forum) they'll knock $50 off the shipping price, bringing the shipped cost total to $1281. They handle well and do fine in snow, I use snow mode though.

The 17'' wheels are perfectly fine. One of my friends has a Laredo with 17" wheels, and they look good. I do think the 18'' wheels look better because of the wider 265 tires vs. the 245 tires that come with 17" wheels. On snow, the narrower 245 tire will be better.

Good luck.

I got the 18" wheel and radio option because I don't like the look of the 17" wheels and I wanted to look different from the fleet/rental version of the GC. I still don't know what the 18" (WPK) wheel for the Laredo looks like, kind of a mystery!

You can pick up a set of 18s cheap off ebay, craig's list etc... I got a set with a couple hundred miles on them for $150. I put 25K miles on the 17s and stock tires, then put the 18s on with Michelin M/S2s. As for ride and handling. I do not notice a difference (other then the M/S2s being a much better tire then the Forteras).

As JGCCayenne stated above there is no difference.

I have the two wheel options to compare as we have a Laredo E and a Laredo X

I feel if fuel econoy is your goal the 17" wheel combo is the lightest setup and there is decent feed back and steering feel given by both tires.

If you don't care about cosmetics the 17" wheels will be just fine.

More wheel means more weight and the 17's are the lightest of the three size options.

Craigs list is full of 17,18 and 20 inch JGC take off's for cheap. I could get a set of 18 tires and wheels for less than it would cost to put new tires on my 17's.

It sounds like the 17's will work for me. I want a daily "on road" driver that handles well. Looks and appearances are a consideration but if the ride is good on 17's and I can save $$$$ then my decision is easier. I guess that I still do not understand what difference 17's 18's and 20's make with on road driving.

Typically, the larger the wheel, the rougher the ride will be. Handling may be improved by larger wheels/wider tires. It of course all depends on the tires and vehicle. There is such a thing as "too large". 17s would do you fine. You'll have the most rubber between you and the road. If you wanted to upgrade, do it later for much less money, or go aftermarket. Then, keep your OE set for winter use (depending on where you live).
