So whats a new 2012 worth?

The wife likes my '11 GC better than her 2010 Chevy Equinox LT. And she likes the White Gold color. Not many of them left around. We have 1200 ft. of dirt driveway and the White Gold don't show the dirt as bad as most colors.

A small town dealer down the road about 50 miles has a new White Gold 2012 Larado 4x2 with the 26X package and Laredo E Group. The leather, 430 satellite radio (no nav) with the 6.5" screen and the backup camera are about the only things the wife cares about. The car was manufactured 8/11 and has been sitting on his lot for 1 year now.

The MSRP is $35,120. The dealer claims he has $33,400 in the car. Kelly Blue Book says the wife's Equinox is worth $17,500 trade in. Dealer says he will take the Equinox and $13,000.

So my question is just what is a new 2012 worth now that it is essentially a 2 model year old car? The wife only puts about 6000 miles a year on her car so I'm not too concerned with it being 2 years old except for the price.

You're going to get a lot of people who are going to tell you that you should only pay used car prices for it. But the reality is, that dealership won't sell it at a loss, and so they're not going to sell it at used car prices.

That said, sounds like a decent deal. Assuming you're getting KBB for the Equinox, you're getting it for $30k.

I think you are right. I shot for the used car price first time around when I offered him $10K difference and he wanted $14.4K. I went to $11K and he went to $13K . I hem-hawed and shuffled my feet and we left. That was Thursday. Didn't get any calls from them Friday or today. I guess I'll have to up the offer Monday morning. If it wasn't for the White Gold color thing I think I could get a 2013 for about the same price this 2012 is going to cost me. I wish that hadn't discontinued the White Gold or had something similar. I've seen a ton of them around so I know it couldn't be because nobody liked it. I know the younger folks like the dark shiny colors so they can spend lots of time washing and waxing but us old folks who live in the country like a color that we only have to wash about twice a year.

I wouldn't buy a car that sat on a lot for a year. Something is not right. Plus the fact that it is not 4x4.

if you do end up going to his price, at least get a service contract thrown in, maybe 3 years of oil changes or something:cool:

Local dealer has a 2012 SRT-8. They want $68K for it :slapfight:

Well, I'm running out of choices quick if I want a White Gold GC. there are only 3 in a 200 mile radius of me and one of them is a Hemi...which the wife don't want. The other is in Columbia SC, MSRPs at $2K more because it has NAV, tow package, sunroof, and power lift gate and that dealer only wants to come down $1500 off the MSRP. He wants my trade and $18K vs. this one for $13K and my trade.

The wife has no desire for a 4x4 so that's no problem. A 4x2 will do fine for her. We've always got my '11 GC 4x4 if we get a blizzard in middle GA.

Does your deal include any incentives? The $500 one for example? I would think you could get $1,000 - $1,500 or even maybe $2,000 more off the deal, or at least try to. I bet he would definitely give another $500. Sounds like it's the exact vehicle you want, but I think you should try to do better on the price. Don't be afraid to walk away if the price isn't right. The dealer will probably then call you in a few days.

Consider using an Affiliate discount to get 1% below invoice plus any available incentives off that. (Tread Lightly membership if your employer doesn't have a Chrysler affiliate discount available)

The dealer is in a little bit of a hard place as they've been paying carrying costs on that inventory, but I agree with the others that you should still be able to deal a little; either with a better trade or a lower price. I actually find it hard to believe that they have their "cost" that high relative to MSRP, although it's a relatively "base" vehicle without much option-margin available.

Nice color choice. That's the color of my Summit and I intentionally looked for White Gold because it was like my last GC because it definitely doesn't show dirt much. I went almost 5 months without washing the Jeep and it still looked pretty good.

It truly is a classy color and is kind of weird that it takes on different colors depending on the light. I've seen it gold, gray, white, and greenish (it's particularly that color when it's cloudy).

He initially figured the $500 incentive the first round but I don't know what he figured for the $13K difference number. When I talk to him next time I am going to remind him that I am supposed to also get a $500 Retired Military discount in addition to the normal $500 incentive. No call again today so I guess I will have to call and up my offer a little tomorrow.
