Grounding problems

Hi
My 2002 Grand Cher 2.7 crd will not start. Instruments and lights in the dash is completely dead and no reaction when the ignition key is turned. However, the starter turns using the ignition key by the addition of extra ground to Start relay in the engine compartment. Have also replaced the ignition connector so it should be ok. Seems to me to be a lack of grounding and wonder if grounding also controlled by a reel or module?

The fact that no lights come on at all, i would expect the battery cable. There are quite a few reports of corrosion of the cable close to the battery terminal. You would have to remove the isolation of the cable for inspection. When you put the extra ground to the starter solenoid, did the dash light up normally?
