2014 Overland test drive. Review and pics of Granite exterior. Amazing!!!

Naperville Jeep recently received a 2014 Overland V6 with Granite exterior and black interior. I wanted to see this color in person as well as the all black interior since all I saw at the autoshow was the Indigo and tan interiors. Those are both nice, but after seeing the black today I am 100% sold on that!!!
So first off the black interior looks phenominal paired with the all black pillars and roof. I love how they did that compared to the 11-13 which had the very light colored roof. Another area that I know people were concerned with was the bronzish center bezel and steering wheel parts. DO NOT let this be of concern to you, in person they look absolutely amazing and give the interior a very rich feel. It is by no means over the top either and doesnt look a whole lot different than the 11-13 color. Its just different enough that you know something has changed. Its perfect!! The new 8.4" nav/radio setup and 7" evic displays are excellent. The amount of info that can be displayed on the EVIC is very extensive and looks awesome too. Only thing that would take some getting used to is the heated steering wheel and seat buttons in the nav screen. I was so used to just hitting the switch on my 2012 Overland. I dont think its a bad thing necessarily, will just take getting used to. New interior night lighting looks great!!

Exterior wise I love everything about it. My only gripes is that the flipper glass is gone and thats something that came in handy a few times when I had my 2012. The lack of rear LED tail and brake lamps is kind of disappointing, but I know of a LED system that can fix that issue if I were to buy a new one. The rear LED license plate lights are cool looking.

I previously had a 2012 Overland V6 so driving this new 2014 V6 was a perfect comparison. If I were to buy a new one I would probably be going with the V8, but I will say the 2014 V6 was for sure an improvement over the 5spd 11-13 versions. I constantly complained about the shift points and overall driving experience to be just so dead feeling in my 12. In normal or eco mode the new 2014 sort of felt the same, but that was expected since it was setup to get the absolute best MPG. When I switched it to sport mode it was like a whole new machine, HUGE improvement and I wasnt expecting that. When I put my 2012 into sport mode it did absolutely NOTHING except lower it into aero mode and hold a couple gears a little longer. Cant wait to try sport mode in the V8 version.

The 11-13's are excellent vehicles, but after driving the new 14 it almost felt like an entirely different vehicle. Its that good!!

Here are some pictures I took of the Overland in Granite. After seeing this color combination in person I am SOLD on it! If and when I get a new one it will be in this color combo! The pictures arent anything spectacular they were just taken with my iPhone5 on a cloudy day, but hopefully they help give you an idea of how this color looks in person for those that havent yet seen it.

I thought the 2014's got LED tailights. Did I misread/misunderstand the changes?

Well what they got was a nice looking LED running light, but neither the brake or turn signal is LED. The front turn signal is LED though go figure.

The more I see it, the more I like granite. To bad you cannot get it with indigo interior.

Those are some nice pics, thanks. Sounds like you just talked yourself into buying another one! I don't mind the brake and rear signal bulb being incandescent. Tails are still LED atleast.

I thought the whole point of LED tails was the brake light coming on sooner and brighter to help avoid a rear end collision. I guess I just assumed that when the 2014 changes said LED tailights, that meant all the tail lights, not excluding brake and signal lights.

Wonder if you could swap out the incandescent bulbs for LED replacements? I don't get why they just didn't do ALL LED from the factory. Everything else in the vehicle is practically using LEDs except those rear signal and brake lights. It makes no sense.

I can't believe so many like LED brake and turn signals. I don't like the look or looking at them. Small red dots that light up instantly and go out just as fast. I hate 'em.

They can easily diffuse the LEDs so you do t see the dots (see the taillight portion of the new WK2, no dots visible).

Tell that to all of the Automakers. Ford Explorer, Dodge Journey, Hondas, Toyotas...
