clicking noise in radio
I have a 99 jeep grand cherokee Ltd....infinity gold system, I have a clicking noise from spark in engine, just started a few months ago, had the jeep since 2001....I know it is each spark from the engine, how do I stop this issue and what is bad?

Re: clicking noise in radio
Normally the ignition coil capacitors (one on each bank) should prevent radio interference. Could be that one is bad.

you sure? I hear one click per fire, meaning every spark plug is making noise

No, not sure, i only know that those capacitors prevent radio interference.

Re: clicking noise in radio
Would you say Cap. on each bank of 4 or Cap. at each plug? If either, wouldn't you find it hard to believe that both or all 8 went at once? Sometimes it's out of frequency with the fire but sometime it is with every fire very consistant....I once found a thread that had the same problem and he tried replacing the radio, no good, then the speakers, no good, then alternator, no good, then the spark plugs that fixed the problem, as he stated he put the wrong type in....anyhow I have not gotten to the spark plugs yet, just trying to research the issue before hand to see if anyone would point to the plugs....

Re: clicking noise in radio
When im not wrong are the capacitors mounted with the nuts of ignition coil 3 and 4. There are only 2 capacitors.
But when the noise is sometimes out of frequency with the engine firing, then it must be something else.

Re: clicking noise in radio
Some info from the jeep manual regarding noise supression problems. The following has to be checked:

* Radio antenna base ground
* Radio receiver chassis ground wire or strap
* Engine-to-body ground strap(s)
* Exhaust system-to-body and transmission
ground strap (4.7L engines only)

* Resistor-type spark plugs
* Radio suppression-type secondary ignition wiring.

Re: clicking noise in radio
Ok, I'm back....the noise continued to become louder and louder, I then did two things...I replaced spark plugs with manufacturer recommended and the noise dropped 90%, that fixed it just about, I then replaced both caps on both sides of the engine with new, that did not remove the last 10% but now I can hear just fine the radio, so I moved on and drove the car for the last 6 months...

Now this week I notice the problem coming back, little by little week after week to now, it is loud again only when the engine is cold as it gets hot it is about 90% gone again, now that the weather is cold outside, this problem is each day during a cold start....

referring back to my spark plug change and the 90% fix, how does this all relate to the cold engine and the problem coming back slowly after 6 months? New Caps installed, that is not the problem, what else?

Re: clicking noise in radio
anybody have any ideas of this clicking noise?

Re: clicking noise in radio
Since changing the spark plugs solved the problem for 90%, I would look further here. Maybe a bad coil or bad connection between coil and plug?
