Backup CAM

Has anyone installed a aftermarket backcam into a aftermarket headunit. where did you attached the cam? Was the it an easy install?

Re: Backup CAM

I added one to my Pioneer AVIC-D3. It was an Alpine HCEC105. The install wasn't hard, but did take a while as i wanted to hide as much of the wiring as possible. I pulled the rear hatch interior panel off and ran my cabling along with the factory wiring and through all the factory grommet's.

I'll have some pics up tomorrow in the visual modifications forum.

Re: Backup CAM

Sorry for taking so long to reply, many work/illness factors came into play. The cam is the Alpine HCEC105. I just used the supplied Alpine backets and aimed the camera so i got a decent view down and back. It's a wide angle lens so it works great. If somebody were ambitious, they could probably order the rear hatch trim panel with cutout for the factory backup cam, and then mount the aftermarket camera under that. I don't know this forsure-but my best estimates from looking at the body of my camera and the trim panel tells me it would fit with minor mods. I ran the wiring through the endgate, following the stock wiring and even using the stock grommet at the top of liftgate to get them inside. Took a while but was a relatively easy job.

That's pretty cool but I know if I got that it would be ripped off in less than 24 hours.

Yes the Alpine will cost arond $150 but after seeing it and other types of back-up cams, i spent the extra money on the Alp, primarily for it's low light operation. You should also look at the BOYO brand of cameras, a little cheaper but almost as good.
