2014 Diesel

Good day Chaps,

id like to discuss a bit about the 2014 JGC Diesel, but not how awesome the power is or quiet or fuel efficient.

Everyone seems to talk on this forum about lipstick and rouge, not enough technical convo happens, details that in my opinion don't really matter to me.

anyway on to my point, the last jeep that had a diesel had a very respected 3.0 CRD from Merc. my dad currently has this vehicle since new and apart from the swirl motor and leaky intake tube its been perfect, it has the GDE eco tune and runes like a champ.

on to the present day, this is also a 3.0 diesel but not from Merc. but VM motori. digging a bit further into this its half owned by GM and Fiat. now im from European decent and Fiat is considered a KIA or Hyundai in Europe, its not a oouuu woww brand. they are not known for great cars.

the other half is GM, and my personal opinion of gm is welll... if i have nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all as my mom used to say.

Sooo, I am planning to purchase a 2014 Diesel limited trim with least amount of options, you may think the QL system is awesome, I see it as a a piece of shit that will break in 6 years and cost me $4000 to fix.

I plan to keep it for 15+ years.

so after all that

what is your view on the VM motor? is it proven, will it become a POS.

discuss

This has been discussed in many threads..If you get the CRD, you will have to get the Limited with Lux II package.

I think Sno is referring to you saying you wanted limited "with the least amount of options" and he was just making sure you knew you had to get the Lux II.

The reading up you are sure to do in the diesel section of this site will show you that this very motor has been in use in JGC's for a couple years now overseas to rave reviews. You could also get the 7yr/100,000 mile warranty for some added comfort.

I thought an extended warranty on the CRD wasn't available?

Since they haven't built any for domestic use, you will do better posting in the export thread. Lots of Aussies are running them.

Just not the lifetime warranty.

Re: 2014 Diesel

They have been running the motor in overseas markets for 3 years, not many complaints from the boys down under that hang out on this forum. There was a good article in Diesel Performance magazine(and online) of Gale Banks going through this engine, and using it for some off highway military projects vs the duramax's currently in service. The internals and construction appear very solid. We will be at the mercy of the electronic controls applied by jeep/chrysler though.

I think it will be a solid, durable motor, and a good match for the vehicle. I am 90% convinced to get one (without QL) , but may wait for the later builds.

Re: 2014 Diesel

As others have mentioned the motor has not been out for more than 2 years in the JGC.
VM Motori is well known for building long life diesel motors, as they build the motors that are fitted to the black taxi's in London. From what I have read about the company, is they know their shit and build good motors. There is no way to tell how long they will last, but I expect it will be similar to the Petrol choices or longer.
I could have chosen any motor, but chose the diesel as it was fast and economical.
I also prefer Turbo motors.

Oh, great!

Thanks - that's good to know. 'Til now, I was under the impression that there was no warranty available that goes beyond the initial 3 years/36,000 miles.

Re: 2014 Diesel

Chrysler sold a 5-year 85,000 warranty in 2008 when I bought my CRD. I have small oil leak somewhere (a drop or two will appear if it sits in the garage for the weekend) and that's the only problem I've had after the warranty expired about 35,000 miles ago.
