V-6 or V-8 on 2014-- Opinions
Ordering a 14 Limited. I've ruled out the Diesel for various reasons mainly cost. I like a vehicle that feels well powered with no signs of straining. I don't tow or off-road. My question is...Is the 3.6L Pentastar V-6 an adequate choice. My leaning is towards the 5.7L V-8 but there is a 2G premium for that. Please share your opinions and recommendations. Thanks.

Do the V8 and don't look back.

Take one of each out for a good test drive. We cannot choose for you.

This is the classic V6 vs V8 debate and there is many threads on this.. Take them both out and make your decision. If gas mileage is a concern, get the V6. If you want power, get the V8.

As you read through the hundreds of discussions previously held on the topic, you will find the v6 is adequate for the Jeep and would be perfectly suitable for regular driving and light towing or off road use. The v8 is better at towing, speed and off road due to power and options (e.g. ELSD). Of course the v8 is a little more expensive, gets worse mileage, and will be a little more expensive to maintain.

So, dems da facts. No one can tell you which motor is better for you than you. Test drive both.

To me there is the factor of an OHV iron engine vs DOHC aluminum. Last century vs this. But I grew up with DOHC sixes & always thought a Jag with bananas sounded better than a Grand Sport 'vette down the straight. A matter of choice.

Re: V-6 or V-8 on 2014-- Opinions
Its such a tough decision that im still on the fence about myself. I had a 2012 Overland that had the V6 and I eventually grew bored of that motor/tranny. I test drove the new 2014 Overland with V6 and I will say with the new 8spd and sport mode it really feels a LOT better, but im still not sure if it feels good enough to keep me satisfied. Then I get my mind set on the V8 again, then I look at the damn fuel prices once again going up and up, and the fact that the V8 uses mid grade fuel (although a lot of people just use regular in them now), the extra cost of maintenance, and the fact that it costs a couple extra grand right off the bat.

I guess it all mainly comes down to fuel economy. The new V6 does pretty well and comes close to a lot of family sedans as far as fuel economy goes. THe V8 not so much, but it would probably be a little more fun to drive.

Canis pretty much summed it up nicely right above.

Guys...Do you lose any other option when you drop the V-8. In other words is anything else tied to it besides the different rear end and 8-speed?

You can only get QDII with the V8/CRD.. You still get the 8spd with any of them.
