Fair trade-in value for 2013 limited?

Hi all - I'm looking to trade in my 2013 base limited for a 2014 (the reason can be a whole different thread). I have a dealer with a good price but I feel he is low-balling me on my trade. There are no prices for the 2013 on KBB/NADA/Edmunds so I'm not sure what a fair price would be. I'm thinking punch in the mileage and options for the 2012...add a grand to it and call it a day.

Thoughts? Anyone have any experience or can give me an idea of what a fair trade-in would be? Thanks.

My dealer gave me $3k more than KBB trade value for mine. Location and dealer inventory play a huge factor in the value.

Thanks. The dealer I'm currently speaking with came in $2K below KBB on a 2012 even though mine is a 2013. That was a 2013 you traded in?

I know the amount they will offer for a trade depends on what they are discounting off invoice, but still, I want something reasonable.

1st thing I would find out is what deal you can get from the dealer before a trade. Then get the dealer to atleast match KBB or better. If they can't do that, then I would say you have 2 options if you really want a 2014.

1. sell the vehicle yourself
2. walk away from the deal and try a different dealer

I went in firm with 34,000 miles on the 2011 overland. I got $33,000 trade in. It was Kelly price non dealership and they did it. Shop around be willing to walk out.

Reasonable for the dealer will be what they're selling new ones for, less new car financing/sales advantages, less discount for "used", less used car sales profit.

Reasonable for you will be something more than reasonable for the dealer.

Mnay times in these model crossover situations, a one year old used car is worth more after all the current model year new cars are sold because the used car will then not have to compete with new cars and new car financing/sales advantages.

1. I might try if I don't have luck at other dealers.
2. Noted.

That's not too bad at all. This dealership was offering me $32K on a 2013 with 4K miles......exactly.

For my 2012 Limited trade I got just under KBB "excellent trade in" value. After some research on the market in my area it seemed fair.

Part if the equation you have to look at is what are other dealers around actually selling a similar car to yours for? Then subtract off a few hundred for marketing and additional safety inspection requirements (if your state has them - they cost over 1k in mine!) and you should get a pretty good idea as to what is "fair".

Good move. I can't believe they would even ask that much (or that little) with a straight face
