2014 issues

So I now have 500 miles on the new 14 Overland and have called Uconnect and Jeep about the following issues.
Rear tailgate does not sound warning when open and in drive
Uconnect froze when Ipod and SD card was plugged in at same time
Any file on SD card not recognised freezes the system does not skip over
Mapping is slow and cannot recognise voice commands for streets very well.
Mapping takes time to recover from a stop to get gas and go back to plotting your trip'
Screen start up does not allow you to turn heated wheel off or seat even though there is an icon
Heater controls take time to respond to a change in temp request.
Back button does not work on screen
Heat controls for steering wheel and seats is in a bad location they should have put switches in like the 2011
Wiper response to rain and snow is delayed when first coming on
When air suspension is raising car sometimes it shows a light raising but its not.
In eco mode the car is sluggish and gears seem to not shift correctly.
Air bags "raising" light stays on even when its done raising.

>>Important<< I hear from Engeneering there is an update coming out next week already for many issues. Log onto your jeep page go to uconnect and check for updates or your delear.

I am curious to see if others are having the same issues or differnt ones. What was your respeonse from Jeep or Uconnect

I've found the routing on the navigation to be really bad. I don't think I have any crazy settings on, but its much worse than my 2007 Acura TL. And I also don't hear any chimes when opening/closing the tailgate.

Re: 2014 issues

I bought a 2014 Limited off the lot on March 13. All systems were great until the night of the 18th. I was at a light and the 8.4 screen showed the Jeep logo, obviously a self reboot. Didn't notice anything else at that time. The next morning, backing out of my driveway, no backup camera image, just a blue screen (oh no BSOD!). Also, half the buttons on the steering wheel stopped working. Cruise buttons, and the paddle shifters were still good, but the two audio controls on the back of the wheel, and the left front buttons were all dead, so couldn't change the EVIC. Since the actual vehicle worked great, I drove it for a couple more days before taking it to the dealer on March 20. All I know is they are "ordering a part" and it will be here mid next week.
I would be annoyed, but I am really enjoying driving the 2012 Grand Caravan loaner. LOL. Those things are sweet!
I will post updates as I get them.

Other than the noted electrical/communication issues (which Jeep can rectify with updates, etc.), are the above "issues" or design factors you, personally, do not like? Switch placement might have been a mistake on someone's part, or it might be for a good reason, but it's still a personal item. Most cars rain sensing wipers have a delay; sometimes to make sure the windshield really needs a wipe, rather than an isolated splash; sometimes the engineers just build in a sensing delay. Finally, eco mode is supposed to operate as you have noted. In eco, the tranny will shift "better" with very little throttle pressure, i.e., driven like a little old lady.

Here's hoping a "Microsoft problem" coupled with a Jeep problem isn't the worst of all possible worlds. Hoping the dealer will quickly get this all behind you.

Your BSOD reference made me laugh. Thanks.

Navigation is hard because the auto manufacturers don't really have inhouse nav programmers. It worked better when outside contracted. But, now, everyone needs to have it fully integrated with some full communication suite.

I find it interesting that people never complain about the worst nav systems; they simply give up ever trying to use them. Read a Subaru road test from a California auto magazine, and you'll see repreated references to how the nav screen regularly showed them being miles into the Pacific! Yet, few Subaru owners complain, they just stop trying to get it to work properly.

Sucks you are having these issues and hopefully the electronic issue isn't widespread. I wish manufacturers would just partner with Google and take advantage of their maps. I find my phone to be much better with navigation than the systems in most cars.

I can't even get to Uconnect to register, (Picked up the car yesterday AM) calling them the last 14hrs they told me they are working on a major update and for whatever reason is causing problems. Perhaps this update is for you?

You think Microsoft is bad, But the Bad news is that our system runs Blackberry type OS made by RIM, and anyone with a blackberry knows its going to have some bugs, and god help you if you have too many things going on or change settings to quick, they just dont like it.

the new uconnect system is Blackberry? that's interesting.

Re: 2014 issues

I think the updates are global I would think.

I forgot to mention I went to the dealership with some of these problems, we walked out to three brand new 2014s on the lot and sure enough they all had these issues. So I guess the fun of buying a brand new edition of a car is tempered with issues that the engineers did not think of. All I know is I wish I was one of the guys last year driving around (test driving) in the new 2014 jeep so I could have warned them or redesigned some of these challenges. Listening to us die hard jeep owners I would think is an important aspect of making the ultimate JEEP
