Start Button on 2013 Overland Summit

Can anyone tell me if the start button on a 2013 GC Overland Summit is supposed to be illuminated at night? Just about everything else is illuminated at night but my start button is not. Just wondering if this is normal or something that needs a warranty repair.

No, it's not. It can actually be removed and the key fob can be inserted in it's place and used as a key. However, the 2014 start button is illuminated and cannot be removed.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll have to learn to find it in the dark using the braille method. ;-)

im not sur but i think there is a mod you can do to illuminate it but honestly it would be more trouble than it is worth..... you can get a glow in the dark decal ;) and put it on top of the button.

Well, at least it's a large round button. Never had a problem finding mine. At least it's a lot less complicated than trying to find the hole that a normal key would go in....not that that is all that complicated either.

so um... if the start button fails, there's no way to manually turn the vehicle on?

Dunno. But I know that a lot of cars don't have removable start buttons so having it on the Jeeps has been a rather nice feature, especially since my fob starting acting up within the past day and I actually had to remove the button and use the fob to start it b/c the DIC stated "Key Not Detected" Then "Damaged Key". Then a minute later the push button worked. I believe the battery in the fob is about shot and needs replacing.

As far as the '14's I think I read somewhere that you have to push the start button with the fob and somehow that will work. Best bet is to look in the owners manual.

AH yea I have the push button start in my 12, I forgot about reading where you put your FOB up to the start button. Cool, Cool!
