Paddle shifters for WK1

FYI moderators I wasn't sure where to post this, feel free to move if you need.*

Hey guys, I'm from the other jeep srt forum. After many attempts (good ones at that) from others. I finally have a useable, cheap, and simple way to have paddle shifters. There is a DIY on the wiring on the other forum, I don't know if I'm allowed to post links to other forums, but you can find it easy enough. You'll notice that I said that there is a DIY on wiring only. That's because the way I did it, you can use any type of paddle, as long as the electrical is modulating (circuit goes on or off as you apply and release the paddle) as compared to digital (where there is a resistance value built in to it). I did this because of two reasons, 1; it keeps the system simple, and 2; if a guy wants to use a paddle that is cheap or more expensive for looks or whatever, (I've seen them from about 60 bucks all the way up to 1400), or if he/she wants to make them wireless, or if they want to mount them a certain way or use a different thing altogether. I'll post a video from YouTube , just follow the link*

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p68VllNf8n4*

and that's me driving it, proving that it works. Post up and questions you have, and if you follow my DIY , and aren't comfortable soldering the wiring, shoot me a pm and I can help you out. Best of luck and happy modding guys*

There are a few things to add here for them moment;
1; your jeep HAS to have autostick to begin with, all the SRT8s have them, I'm not familiar with the other wk models so I don't know what to include.
2; it has to be an 08+ WK1 to follow my DIY exactly. I have an 09 so I wanted to get mine done first to show others how to do it, and the 05-07 have a different style ESM , and I haven't gotten ahold of one yet to figure the electrical out.

Post up and questions you have, and if you follow my DIY , and aren't comfortable soldering the wiring, shoot me a pm and I can help you out. Best of luck and happy modding guys!!

Sox I'm not 100 percent sure. But if you follow the first few steps in removing the esm, pulling chrome bezel and then the other one, you should see the box there.. I have an srt and haven't ever been in any other wks apart from srt. I don't think it would be any different really... But don't quote me on that.

Yeah man for sure. If someone has a spare one laying around and can send it to me for cheap or free, I'll start on it. I'm trying to get the current one to look less than a hack job at the moment, so that's my priority. I wanna finish something before I start on something else. it looks kinda brutal and you can't see it from the video very well. I'm thinking of doing something in the way of wireless.. I have an idea, just need some time to do it.

I used paddles from a BMW m3 , best look and cost. I mounted them on to the front of the steering column cover, right between the steering wheel and cover.

Re: Paddle shifters for WK1

This is a common mod for the LX cars and they used the MB paddles they fit our wheel too. The clockspring was not the same as the LX at least not in my Jeep to do the LX mod.
Instead I have been using, testing, reading the program for a year for the Transformer guy.
WHat is the Transformer? It is basically a black box and it allows you to use the volume control on the back of the wheel to shift (It's pretty sick) You can also controll transmissin shift firmness. Other programs the box has are not working fully yet but they are line-lock and 2WD mode!
It will get cracked then we are going to do the 2011+ as soon as the 06-10 program is done.
So why mention this because it is a plug and play box and it works flawlessly and would save a lot of unnecessary work to get paddles unless of course you like the look of them.
Either way nice Mod I've always like it!!

can you post pics of how the paddles are mounted to the column and a link to the paddles themselves? I assume they are on ebay etc.
