2014 Height

I was driving on the highway today and noticed that the 2012 overland actually rides higher than the 2014, looked as though I was 4+ lower if not more inches than the 2012. The height was on the 1st led due to driving 65mph and not in park mode. Did they drop the height on the 2014's, also anyone have an idea as to how you can bypass so that you can drive at any of the 3 height adjustments?

What was your frame of reference while driving that allowed you to compare two ride heights on two different vehicles, one of which you were driving?

Raise your seat. ;)

Factor in driver's seating height, speed, distance from each other, other meteorological factors...all add up to visual diffraction lending to the "appearance" of one being higher or lower.

Actually it was the side mirrors that caught my eye.. when we both got to a stop side-by-side you could clearly see the difference in height.

Re: 2014 Height

Quadra lift in the "aero mode" position perhaps? I understood that the 2014 QL added height to the car generally.

From WK2Jeeps:

"New Quadra Lift™ air suspension system provides height control and lifts vehicle up to 4.5 inches from park mode to a maximum ride height of 11.1 inches of ground clearance and delivers legendary Jeep off-road capability" ie 6.6" of height change

The 2011-13 QL offered "The Quadra-Lift air suspension system provides height control and lifts the vehicle up to 4.1 inches from park mode to a best-in-class maximum ride height of 10.7 inches." ie 6.6" of height change

The all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee rises above the road and rocks with the all-new Quadra-Lift air suspension system. The Quadra-Lift system features five height settings for optimum ride performance:
  • Normal Ride Height (NRH): 8.1 inches of clearance offers improved fuel economy as well as improved aerodynamics during on-road driving
  • Off-road 1: Lifts the vehicle an additional 1.5 inches for added height in clearing obstacles (9.6 inches)
  • Off-road 2: Delivers legendary Jeep off-road capability and provides an additional 3 inches of height for 11.1 inches of ground clearance
  • Park Mode: Lowers the vehicle 1.5 inches from NRH for easy ingress/egress. NRH and Park mode are driver selectable allowing the driver full control over vehicle ride height
  • Aero Mode: Lowers the vehicle .6 inches from NRH. Aero Mode is controlled by vehicle speed and adjusts for optimal performance and fuel economy Quadra-Lift adds up to 4.5 inches of lift span supported by four-corner air springs that provide a cushioned, premium ride. Quadra-Lift operates automatically, or may be controlled manually with console controls.

Re: 2014 Height

The 2014 lowers to aero mode at a lower speed than the 2012, I think. Specs state that the 2014 is supposed to sit higher than the 2012 in normal height, if I remember correctly.

From here:
Quadra-Lift® Air Suspension | Jeep® - YouTube

You get (after some attention and math) the figures below. It appears therefore that the 2014 sits higher than the model(s) it replaces.
  • Normal Ride Height (NRH): 8.7 inches of clearance
  • Off-road 1: Lifts the vehicle an additional +1.3 inches from NRH
  • Off-road 2: provides an additional +2.6 inches from NRH of height for 11.3 inches of ground clearance
  • Park Mode: Lowers the vehicle -1.6 inches from NRH
  • Aero Mode: Lowers the vehicle -0.5 inches from NRH.
