First tough decision to make about the WJ

I always hate when the time comes when you decide to rig something up on a vehicle instead of buying a totally new part. But I think this time has come for Ole Silver.I've taken it to work the last few days just so it didn't think it was gonna sit in the garage all winter salt free:lol: Well on the way home the right side turn signal started hyperflashing so I figured a bulb went out. All the bulbs were good and the problem turned out to be water got into the plug that plugs into the tail light and it is shot. The only thing working back there is my quad mod socket that doesn't use that plug. Now I just had the quarter trim off on that side and don't recall any junction handy to unplug the tail harness and maybe a few years ago I would have replaced the whole right side harness for that plug but not anymore. TBH Silver isn't new anymore and it's not worth all the cost and aggravation. Time to cut the plug off and wire up individual sockets old school like the quad mod.Probably gonna be a better deal anyway because I already had to doctor up the contacts on the tail sockets a few times. Still makes me feel crappy though. This brings up a question though. Why does the WJ use 3157's in the turns and reverse lights instead of a single filament 3156? Convenience or something more? I'm probably gonna just get 2 wire sockets for reverse and turn and run 3156's to keep things simple unless there's more to it.

Aren't the turns also running lights? I'm not sure...but you're right about the reverse bulbs...not sure why they'd be 3157's.
I thought I was going to open up this thread and see that you were contemplating getting rid of it or something!

Seems like the rear light sockets on these things are notorious for sucking although I have not had any issues with mine thankfully. Some creative wiring isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sounds like you're simplifying, which is a good thing. While you're in there wire up some resistors and get your LED on already...

I thought the same as Tony! While you're fixing it up, might as well put LED's in. Luckily I haven't had any issues with mine.

Good God No Man!!!! I cant believe you'd want me running around with amber on all the time back there!!! :D The fronts are though bro but not the back. Probably slipped your mind cause you have that nice tint back there and totally blocked the amber part out of your mind. Denial,it's still under there Tony..........Lurking..............

I really want to do some tint and led's but something else always comes up. Also I'm running two extra park/stops so it's getting pretty pricey to go led back there. Someday............

Ah yes...that different stripe of hideous orange. I totally forgot about that. In that case, it makes no sense to me why there would be a 2 filament bulb there. Especially in an orange bulb...because all that does is intensify the hideousness to a whole other level of brightness...hahahhaha.

Thanks for the offer bro! Thing is those bulb contacts in the tail assy have already given me trouble before so I picked up all new sockets and am going to eliminate using them all together. I've used these for the quad tail light mod and work pretty well back there. Thanks again bud.

These do work well...I believe they are for GM's. I had to splice one in up front for one of my parking lamps. I "over modified" the stock one by mistake..hehehheh

Yeah bro '89 to '93 GM I believe. Please elaborate on how you "over modify" a lamp socket please. You know for educational purposes:D

Before I used VLED products, I had some LED wedge bulbs from another retailer. The bases were just a little too thick for the socket, so I decided to get at it with dremel. Things didnt go well...hahhahahah
