Painting Stock Wheels

So I have a set of stock limited wheels that came off my old jeep that I've been wanting to paint black for a while. Might finish the murdered out look on my wj. I was wondering, for anyone who may have done this, what you had to do to prep them, what kind of paint to use etc...

^^ great link.

I was gonna say; sand, primer, paint, clear. Not sure how many coats of any of them though.

I would PM Micallef and ask him how his wheels are holding up and if he has any tips for ya.

I painted mine black.... I work for Sherwin Williams... what I did was use aggresive steelwool on all the chipped areas till smooth. The used finer grades to really nock the clearcoat down and give the primer something to bite into, I used flat black primer (aerosol) dont let it puddle do two or even three light coats. Once dry i then gave them a good wet coat of a satin black and top coated with a satin clear coat all Sherwin products of course. I have not had any chipping or peeling and we are coming up on a year now, the trick is in the prep, the new paint needs to be able to bite into a good solid profiled substrate.... so sanding is critical.... look at my profile.... wait you have seen my black 99' ltd ... right?

Do you mean the Avila 17 inch rims. I would kill my self to sand those things down. It took me about 2 hours to detail them off the truck.

No just the standard 5 stars. Those look like a royal pain in the arse to try to sand. And thanks for the replies guys.
