2014 Tahoe vs JGC

Supposedly the MY14 Tahoe is all new redesign. Anyone know more in terms of features, powertrain, mpg, or style?

I'm hoping it gives JGC some competition, lower prices for everyone is good

As in for the Tahoe?? There is information in the 1st post of the features thread and pricing in the ordering thread for the 2014 Grand Cherokee

Jeep won't lower prices because of a new Tahoe. Especially because they are not directly competitive. I'm not saying one is better than the other, just that they have different target markets.

Tahoes are one size up from GCs. They're also MUCH less nice inside, with much worse performance and economy, and cost a decent amount more.

Tahoes are a dying vehicle, they don't have as much space as GM's Lambdas, don't have as nice of rides or interiors, and get way worse fuel economy. The only advantage they have is that some people like trucks, and they can tow a lot more. Unfortunately for them, that market is shrinking massively, as the unibody CUVs grow in tow rating past 5000 pounds. Given that the GC/Durango and other unibody vehicles can tow past that, it's only a matter of time before things like the Acadia and the like get powerful enough engines to tow that much.

GM's new 400hp turbo6 transplanted into the Lambdas (it's already going in the FWD Caddy XTS) might be enough motivation to allow them to pull that much weight. Then its a matter of brakes and chassis stiffening to allow it to completely replace the Tahoe.

Was thinking the new Tahoe would get significantly better mpg and new interior but obviously not as nice as JGC.

The Tahoe doesn't compete with the GC and I can't really imagine that it will look all that different. The Tahoe to me has looked the same for the last 20 years. They changed headlights and stuff like that but it still looks like a tahoe. The GMC version a few years ago they made some changes to the front it looks to me like they flipped the headlights around and started mounting them upside down and called it a redesign. There is nothing in the GM fleet I can think of that would compete directly with the GC.

I'm not sure what you want to hear, but I can't discourage you from getting a new Tahoe. My pops had one Z71 (2004/5 not sure) and I drove it many times flawlessly in the snow back when I had a 01 Jeep 2wd. But when it was stolen and parted out in Feb., we went looking at suv's in the year of 12/13 and Ltz were around $60,000. Sure, we could have talked it down, but it was nowhere near the value of the same overland that still got talked down.

I loved that Tahoe as a "to the mountains driver" but since I surf all the time, I find it to be a "hard to get a beach parking spot finder" and opted for a jgc. So the new body style, w/e it may be, will never be optimal to me.

And no, I won't own a 4x4 mini c to get better access to spots, the wk2 fit in most sedans spots, once they leave.

The Tahoe competes with Durango for size.
If this is the new 2014 Tahoe then it definitely looks like the one they made 20 years ago.

I believe Grand Cherokee is becoming a dying concept. Most SUVs transitioned into the unibody CUV and in doing so they become as potent off-road as any other awd car and were simply less roomy than a minivan and towed more. Look at at what happened to the Nissan Pathfinder.

I feel that there's nothing in the GM and Ford fleet that competes with a Jeep Grand Cherokee in terms of off-road capabilities. In terms of competing in the same segment, yes, you have the Explorers and the Traverse/Acadias but I doubt people cross-shop them as much as marketing would have us think. Traverse/Acadia and Ford Flex/Explorer are the new minivans. And frankly if I wanted just a larger than Subaru Forester SUV but I cared for nothing but dirt/3 inches of snow twice a year I would be buying a Honda Pilot.

The only equivalent cars to a Jeep GC are offered by Toyota [4Runner, Land Cruiser, Lexus GX460 (known as Toyota Prado elsewhere); LX81530], Nissan (XTerra) and VW (Touareg). And if you are not after true off-road capabilities and just want awd and dirt/snow confidence, while JGC is a great competitor, you will find cheaper, nicer alternatives, perhaps even cheaper from all the manufacturers mentioned here, including Honda and Infiniti.

Easy on the economy comments...Two buddies with similar LTZ Suburbans..they both, in separate conversations, have reported highway mpg in the mid twenties, something I can only dream of with my Hemi..

Holy hell, that thing is ugly. I hope that isn't the new Tahoe.

Not to deter from what the op was asking but many peeps on this site say they get low to mid 20s with the v8 at highway speeds.

I'm guessing it will be equally as ugly as the '14 GM trucks. I wouldn't even consider one. There are only a few large SUV left, and none are very desirable. I can't believe Ford hasn't update the Expedition yet. It's even more ancient.
