How good is the '14 Nav Traffic feature?

For those that already have their '14 - how do you like the traffic feature? And the navigation overall?

Positives? Negatives?

Thanks

Not really impressed with the nav. Directions are not optimal and it loses my position a lot and tries to recalculate. most of the time I just end up using google maps on my phone. My 2007 Acura TL-Type S navigation was much better as far as actual routing went. The traffic on the 2014's seems *ok* in the nyc area, but again google maps traffic is 10 times better.

Google maps will always be better, but it worked surprisingly well for me on the freeway last weekend. It signaled there was traffic coming up and automatically re-routed me to avoid the upcoming traffic conditions. I was confused why it was taking me off the freeway and ignored it, but once I was stuck in traffic, I understood what it was doing. I should read the book on it so I know how it works instead of learning as I go.

I've mentioned before that I hate the fact that they put such a small map in the middle of the 8 inch screen. Everything else works better than expected.

On a recent trip to NY (where I lived for over 50 years) I let the navigation direct me to four locations, even places I knew how to get to. It took me on roads I had never been on before and avoided a few traffic tie ups I could see from the side streets it directed me to. On the way home it said to use the truck lanes on the NJ Turnpike. Sure enough, about 8 miles south I could see the cars only lanes at a stand still, while we only had to slow down to 45. Having the turns pop up right in the middle of the speedometer (programmable option) is another nice touch.

Almost forgot. The lady in the dash would yell at times and other times whisper, making it necessary to adjust the volume. A little annoying, but not worth a trip to the dealer.

 My wife got pissed at her yelling "Recalculating Route" when I didn't take the detour provided. They really need to fix the volume issues with a software update because I find myself lowering and raising it to balance out her reactions to different routes.

Does it allow you to find a location (or intersection) using the touch screen, and then select that location as the point you want to be navigated to - or do you always have to enter an address ?

(I tried to do that during a test drive and it didn't work, but that was without reading anything).

The only way I could do it ...

Intersection

Touch this soft-key to enter in two street names as a
destination.

FYI - If you adjust the volume while the music is playing it only adjusts the volume of the music, likewise if you adjust the volume while the "Nav Lady" is talking it only adjusts her voice volume. Perhaps you were adjusting the volume down then later turned up the music then her voice was still at low volume.

Thanks Dan. I'll have to keep my hands off the volume controls when she's yapping. :)

Interesting, maybe the same trick applies to the 430N. I will have to intentionally get of the suggested route to keep her talking so I can adjust the volume.

If you go into the settings there is a part for the navigation. You can change your icon to a Jeep and a few other things including the volume of the voice for GPS.

I have been lucky enough not to hit traffic when using the navigation so far, so I have can't comment on that. It does get confused on Spaghetti Junction here in Louisville though. It thinks I took the wrong road and tries to recalculate the route. The 3D maps/buildings are fun especially near the football stadium and Churchill Downs.

That is what changes. I had it at 18, when it was too low I went in and it was 8. Then it got loud and when I went in to change it, it was maxed out.
