2014 Mopar Appearance Group option?

I did some searches and I haven't quite found the answer yet. Best I can tell the Mopar Appearance Group and the Chromed Edition Group by Mopar are the same thing - tubular side steps and door entry guards - but the former is black and the latter is chrome. Is that correct? And is there anything else included in this option?

Also, best I can tell the "door entry guards" are door sills and/or door sill protectors?

I've been to 2 Jeep/Chrysler dealerships so far and couldn't find a single JGC with this option, which I'm bummed about because I'd really like to see what it looks like and whether it's worth it.

I'm a little surprised the side steps aren't more popular (at least based on my 2 visits). Every time I go to load my surf board or skis and snowboards onto the roof rack of my Explorer I curse myself for not getting running-boards/side-steps.

Is there a negative (other than cost) to the side-steps? Based on the (very bad) photos I've been able to dig up, it doesn't seem like they would impact ground clearance or other similar issues, though it's tough to tell from the photos. Any other reasons they don't seem to be a common option?

I know the main reason we didn't get them is because of rust, if they were stainless I would have gotten it, but I know too many people who have to repaint their running boards every year to get rid of the rust.

Eek!! That is a big concern for me. I live about 70 yards from the ocean and everything rusts in the blink of an eye. In fact that's the main reason I'm looking for a new vehicle right now.

I've been shoveling up bits of my Explorer from the driveway for the last year or so. The rear door is now completely rusted shut, the power steering lines have rusted through, the a/c rusted and locked up, last time the shop tried to take the wheels off they needed a hammer and chisel to separate the wheel from the hub. Last time I picked it up from the shop the mechanic said "no more! Get a new vehicle." He made veiled threats of sneaking in and dragging it off to the junk yard for my own good.

Are there any better options for side steps?

Here is a '14 Overland with the tubular side-steps:

The major issue for me is that I wear a size 11 shoe and the side rails are designed for a size 5. I understand that they cannot stick out far (though do protect from parking lot slammers). Will say I do not care for chrome.

They stick out too far but don't have enough room for footing. they are by far the most awkward side steps I have ever had.

I didn't get the package with delivery of my 2011 Jeep Summit however I added both the side rails in chrome and the door entry guards. I live close to the ocean and I have no evidence of rusting on my rails or side steps.

They are a dealer added option and FYI they fit all models except 2014 Summit. I have a Summit ordered and dealer will try to fit them on it but his computer says they will not fit.

I have the chrome/satinless on my 2012, they work very well for both myself and my wife. Theywere added by the dealer after we bought the GC.

Hi there. My dealer checked with the mechanic and my chrome side rails do fit on my 2014 Summit. I am having mine from 2011 Summit removed and placed on new jeep. That is the first question I asked.

You are correct with the side steps though. I am having rear fog lamps installed too.

Anybody familiar with both the rock rails and the side steps? The rock rails look like they double as side steps but are probably more rugged, though don't appear to have any traction/anti-slip material.

Cost aside, would the side-steps or rock rails be better if the primary use would be as side-steps?
