2012 Lift Glass Strut

Does anyone know how many psi the stock lift glass strut is? I'm looking to upgrade it to one that can actually pop open and lift the glass when I hit the button on the remote.

This would be pretty bad ass. I'm interested. Will start looking around. Lemme know.

I'm still looking. Surprised no one has done it yet.

Does anyone know what size the strut is?

Re: 2012 Lift Glass Strut

So the stock strut is a Stabilus. It is about 11.5'' compressed and 18'' extended. Still have no idea what the pressure rating is, but I'm guessing it is about 20-30lbs. I found some struts on ebay in our size range anywhere from 45lbs to 120lbs. I think I may purchase the 75lb ones and see how it works.

Re: 2012 Lift Glass Strut

just a thought, if you increase the opening pressure wont that also increase how much pressure is required to close it also, too much pressure focused on one little area of the glass and....

joyfil2001 04-27-2013 09:40 AM

Yes it would, which is why I want to only increase it a little. I will be replacing both struts, so if I add 5lbs per strut that gives me an extra 10lbs. Problem is I don't know what the factory is for sure.

Re: 2012 Lift Glass Strut

this sounds really overly simple but do you suppose if you took the weight of the glass and divided it by two, that would put you in the ballpark?

kennzz05 04-28-2013 11:04 AM

So I was thinking you could contact an auto glass place like Safelite and ask them if they know what the weight of the glass is and also they may have the information on the lift cylinders and for that matter what their opinion is on doing your modification

That's a great idea. I'll call them this week.
