Dealer getting Jeep from another Dealer

Hi,

My Jeep dealer didn't have the 2014 JGC that I was looking for but another dealer had the exact Jeep - exact same equipment and configuration except for color

The dealer said he could make a better price for the Jeep he had in stock, but if I wanted to Jeep delivered from another dealer (50 miles away), it would be $3000 more --- exact same Jeep just a different color

Has anyone else had a similar experience? I could understand that he could offer a better price for the one he had on the lot, but $3000 difference? I was thinking maybe $500 difference.

He just wants to sell what's on his lot. I would say screw him, drive the 50 miles, and work out the deal u want with that dealer.

When I ordered my Summit, dealer found one just like it 200+ miles away BUT that dealer would only give it up IF mine had Summit to trade them and they didn't..price would've stayed the same tho"

I would tell him you are going to the other dealer then. $3000 is ridiculous! The dealer tried pulling this when we bought my wife's Hyundai and I told them I'll go to the other dealer. You could practically drive across country and still save money. They quickly changed their mind.

50 miles is a short drive. Just go to the other dealer yourself.

Why pay $3K? Hell, why pay $500???

Most times dealers swap vehicles as favors, especially ones that close. Wife use to work at one and sometimes they would so no on swapping popular rides if they didn't have allocation or require lunch when they did the swap. It's a scratch my back and I'll scratch yours trade system. Shouldn't cost you a cent more, even 500 is crazy. Drive the 50 miles and deal with that dealer directly I'd say. Not even sure I'd buy anything from them in the future for proposing a deal like that. If a salesman told you that I'd almost ask to talk to the sales manager and ask him if he approved a screwing like that. Your sign to run...

I just negotiated. They did say they could do better on a 2014 on their lot. They got to 3.5% below invoice (they were offering this b/c I had a letter showing $1,750 below invoice at the Colorado Springs dealer. I said I wanted a 2013 not on their lot. First they said they can't go below invoice. But then later, they would go 1/2 of their holdback below invoice which is about 1.5% below invoice. I could have fought for more. Still turned them down even getting $1,000 abovee KBB trade-in excellent price for my 2012.

That's BS. When I bought my 2012 Power Wagon, my dealer swapped a Rubicon Jeep for my truck that was about 250 miles away. I did have to pay a couple hundred bucks to cover the transport costs, but it wasn't a big deal. That was the only extra cost difference. A guy from the dealer drove the Jeep to the other dealer and drove my truck back home. It had a few hundred miles on it when I took delivery but I wasn't concerned.

I just did this yesterday - my local dealer who I had already negotiated all pricing with on a '14 Overland didn't have the one I wanted but a dealership in Oregon 150 miles south happened to have one (Granite Overland with Advanced Tech Package and no CD player).

They had it transported up yesterday morning and I took delivery yesterday afternoon. Zero mark up in cost to have this done - I paid the same price we had previously negotiated. They just swapped Overlands straight across with the other dealership.

There was going to be a $500 transport cost if they were to actually put it on a truck to transport it, which I was willing to pay, but they couldn't do this til next week so I said screw it and just had them drive it and put the 150 miles on it so that I could take delivery right away. Having them drive it for me cost me nothing.

To do a dealer to dealer trade, it shouldn't cost you anything. If the dealers aren't willing to make the change, your just stuck. When we got my wife's Hyundai, it took the dealer 3 weeks to try and find this car and only took my 30 minutes. When talking with the dealer, he said that dealer didn't want to trade it cuz it was a hot item. So we just went to that dealer instead and bought it for an even better deal than what we originally was looking at.

To anyone looking for retirement jobs, that is exactly what they are for some people. They have a posse of probably 10 people at our local dealership that do nothing but drive new cars around. Some husband and wife teams too. You just sit on a list and they call if they need you. Already have it in my retirement plan.;-)

I think the dealer with the car you want gets the hold back and not your dealer is why. My dealer has got 2 cars for me but never charged any extra.
