2005 WK Limited with broken interior door panels

Hey guys I'm new here but wondered if anyone has found a solution to this issue. I've found many complaints on various postings elsewhere online but no one has a solution that I've found so far. On the driver's side of my jeep, the small indented molding parts that go around the interior handle are badly cracked and broken due to brittle plastic. On the rear door, it is so badly cracked that the door latch cannot connect anymore and therefore cannot be opened from the inside anymore. I've heard some speak about fabricating the parts out of fiberglass but I don't even have an intact piece to fabricate from! The local Jeep dealer quoted me well into $1xxx to replace both WHOLE door panels since apparently the piece isn't sold separately. Any help anyone can offer would be much appreciated. I'm in college and frankly can't afford two new door panels, but am also dreading the day in the near future when my driver's door becomes unusable too!

well first off welcome to the garage and secondly you might want to check car-part.com for door panels to replace with and see if you can find it for cheaper

hopefully someone will chime in soon

honestly, I just want to replace the actual piece itself, rather than the entire panel, as the entire panel is in great shape other than the crack in the indented moulding. It would be great if someone on the forum knew a fabricator, etc who had done this before. If I have to find a fabricator locally, I'm going to have all four doors done to prevent this problem from occurring again.

sorry bro....you are the first to have that problem here. Maybe a metal shop could fabricate somehting from stainless for ya.

Not the first. My door handle is dangling next to door panel because first it cracked and now the handle completly broke off.

Scott said HERE meaning Jeep Garage. And if you search here you will see that I cannot remember ONE post about it except i do remember a 09 SRT8 that had all for door panels crack and break in cold weather.

so since not many here even know what you are talking about perhaps post some pictures might help in the pursuit of a solution.

Good Luck

I wonder if you could coat what is left of the broken trim piece with the vinyl tape people are using to change the look of their interior? Perhaps glue the pieces back together first, then apply the vinyl for strength?

Alternately or additionally - if you have enough pieces to approximate the shape, maybe apply fiberglass sheet(s) over the remaining portions, then the vinyl to finish?

The fiberglass solution has been done but is still relatively costly (because I have no clue how to do it myself). At this point, I've fought with Chrysler Corporate for a very long time. After six months, I have 2 door panels in the correct color (one doesn't work though as they connected it wrong), one door panel in the incorrect color (seriously the mechanics at my dealer can't tell black from khaki), and another door panel that is supposedly on national backorder. Supposedly the completed price for all 4 new panels will be $684, when the retail cost would've been $2200.

I would find some 06 and up panels on car-part.com I got some 08-10 door panels for $200 for the entire set in perfect condition. Also....they are easy to remove/replace.....anyone could do it. Dont pay a dealer to remove/install....
