Can You Change Tire Sizes on Summit 4x4?
I have always been told that if you change tires sizes on a 4x4 jeep you will have differential and maybe trans problems. Is this no longer the case on the 2014 Summit? I am asking because I may get the ORII package if I can on the summit or overland and then change to the Summit 20 inch on road wheels if it wont damage the drive train. Then if I really want a serious off road adventure I can put the 18's back on temporarily. Has the issue with tire size changes and differential damage ever been true? I have a 97 JGC TSi 4x4.

All OEM WK2 tires end up with the same diameter regardless of wheel size (smaller wheel, larger side wall, larger wheel smaller sidewall).

Many of us have a set of 18 wheels and tires for winter and off road abuse, and 20 inch wheels and tires for everyday. As long as they are OEM sized, you will be fine.

You make get in trouble if you mix tire sizes at the same time, running different tire diameters on each corner can cause driveline wear and tear. If all four are the same size, not an issue unless you go way larger.... but that is a different story.

That is really good news. I basically want an off road Summit but had problems ordering the ORII parts. Now if I can find out if the ORIII parts really fit and don't cause other problems such as overheating, I know I will be OK with the tires.

As the saying goes in the JK community.....big tires bend axles. With the WK2, though, you don't have solid axles, so not as big of an issue. Short can change tire sizes, as long as you have the same size tire at each corner. You can even have a different size in the front than you do it the back if you want. The only issue you might have with adding bigger tires (35's+) is a decrease in performance. Wont' necessarily hurt the diffs/trans, but you certainly won't get the same acceleration and fuel efficiency without changing to taller gears.

I wouldn't put differant sized tires on the front than the back on an all wheel drive. There's lots of people running larger than OEM though. These are 275/55/20 GY Silent Armor.
