Protection for Back of Front Seats

Hi all,

I have two kids who play soccer and baseball and and and ... they get dirty feet and when they get in the car (and even with the threat of beatings.. yes, non PC, I know) they put their feet on the backs of the front seats. Its not that much of a problem when I had a wrangler and its just fabric, but now the backs of the Overlander I just bought are black plastic and I can see every piece of lint and dirt and it drives me nuts.

Is there anything people have done to protect against this? Its going to happen and they will get dirty just because that is where their feet are and I am not driving a stretch limo.

I was thinking of getting the 3M tape and doing the backs up, or what I should say is paying someone to do a better job than I can. I guess it also depends on if that hampers the rear airbags in any way. Because its a textured area I also assume it won't be possible to get a perfect appearance.

Anyway, any suggestions... I already have heard the one my wife said to me when I mentioned it.. something like "You're and idiot, its a car and you have kids, its gonna get dirty... just clean it more!! :slapfight: "

Not trying to be silly here, but maybe drape a garbage bag over the seat (but under the headrest), tape it at the bottom and cut the front half off (covering the front of the driver's seat where you sit)?

That would definitely work, but was looking for a more elegant idea than that. I think I will buy a roll of 3M tape, the kind that people use on here to cover the sill protectors and just try it out. It only costs about 20 bucks and the worst thing that can happen is it doesn't work. Just want something that will allow me to not see sneaker tread marks on my seat backs.

I could go full on anal and make the kids put on booties before they get in the truck.. LOL... but I am sure that solution won't pass the smell test with wife and kids though. Maybe this desire for a totally clean car will die once the truck is over a week old.

Putting plastic over the plastic seat backs just means the dirt will be on a different piece of plastic. You'll still have to learn to live with it, or clean the plastic covering the plastic.

Enjoy your kids, you'll have them longer than the Jeep. :)

LOL.. is that a statement on the quality of the jeep or just a carpe diem  ?

The bigger problem is camping... well not really camping, we have a 42 foot Fifth Wheel that we keep at a private campground. the roads and sites are gravel. Black jeep, white gravel dust, ugh. I change cars about every 1.5 years, so I do try and keep them up to snuff so the value is higher.

You are probably right... I will just have to get over it. Maybe when their legs are long enough to not be comfortable putting them up on the seat back I will be better....or maybe I just buy a BMW 750 iL next time.

Be glad it's black plastic. Every car should have this. I'd much rather have my kids dirty shoes on the black plastic vs. cloth or leather.

You can buy seat back protectors at any baby store, or any baby section of a convenience store. I have some nice Eddie Bauer ones that are not in use.

You have a trailer hitch, don't you? Get yourself a utility trailer to put the kids in!!!

Just kidding, of course. I have a similar situation with my wife. On a trip she gets comfortable by putting her feet on the dashboard! I can't get her into the trailer!

It would be much easier to make them to take out their shoes and use flip flops or something like that on their way to/from the practice or whatever... on the way back home just trow everything in the trunk (assuming a good rubber liner) or cargo box... it's no big deal, there won't be a good solution!

Wait to see when they start to pull their feet on top of the back seat! Just get rid of the shoes and you are gonna get rid of the problem! :-)

Just bought two of these off amazon...also ordered full set of weathertech mats including back. Going a little bit overboard I know, but I normally don't let my kids in my cars (Challenger SRT8 etc) so I am improving...

Backseat Organizer

Will let you know how they turn out.
