Questions about apps on 430N

Hi everybody

I looked thorough some posts. but I didn't see an answer to this.

I have a 430N and I use it with my iPhone 5. I used it with SGS3 until recently, with same results. On both phones, I start pandora on my phone, and it streams through the 430N. Is there a way to actually use Pandora directly on 430N? Like an app that I can click on, see my playlists etc?

Also, why can't I play music from my old ipod classic through the USB port in the armrest? It never finds it when I click on scan devices under Media tab.

Thanks!

As far as the app, there are no add-on apps for the 430N. The only way to get Pandora, etc is to run it on your phone and just bluetooth the audio.

Have you tried any other devices to see if they work in the console USB port? Should just be able to plug it in, go to "Aux" on the radio, then select USB under the devices selection. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to fully connect, but your iPod should be ready once it shows "Jeep" or "uconnect" on it's screen. Is the USB option just staying grayed out?

Hey Musashi,

Nope, no Pandora or any apps for the 430n and even on the newer systems '14 when the apps become available they use the data connection on your phone. You are doing it the right way :).

As for the center console USB port, it has always been hit or miss. I can charge my device off of it but that is it. Try the USB port on the unit itself and see if that works.

Thanks guys. Wow, such a bad design.I tried a 4runner with Entune and my girlfriend had Entune in her car, it is way more useful than what 430N offers.

I will try som eother older devices in the armrest USB and see if I can make them work, but I am amazed that implementation is so poor.

To be fair, running Pandora in the head unit would require that it contain a cellular phone data modem. That would have been completely out of scope for the 430N.

Classic iPods work fine with the 430N using the USB port in the center console (the arm rest). Can you plug in a thumb drive with MP3s and play them? If not, the cable from the head unit to the USB port is not connected correctly; that was a common problem. If so, you may not have all TSRs (firmware updates) installed; check the list here.

Re: Questions about apps on 430N

I am not sure if I presented my question properly. I am expecting 430N to use my cellular data. I just expected it to be able to control more stuff on my phone.

All I can do is play whatever is playing on my phone. I can't engage Pandora on my phone from 430N, or open a playlist in my music App. If I am not mistaken, Entune on Toyota does all that. I wish I could hit a button that says Pandora on my touchscreen and see my stations and play them, without taking my phone out and messing with it while I drive. Existing way is not any better that playing music from my phone while attached with a 3.5mm cable in aux and controlling stuff from the phone. Other than the fact I can hit "next" on the stereo, there are no real benefits.

As for iPod classic - it is simply not recognized. I can play music from the USB without any issues (most of the time). I haven't tried any other devices. What I like about playing music from a jump drive is that I can play genres and see some options. When I play music from my iPhone through Bluetooth, it just plays, and I can hit next. I can't see playlists or genres or any options. Not quite the pinnacle of technology.
