ABS: 4 channel or 3 ?

1 Attachment(s)
Anyone who has looked at the 2011, 12, 13, or 14 Jeep Grand Cherokee specifications sheet on WK2JEEPS has seen this note:"(b) Three-channel ABS standard on 4x2. Four-channel ABS standard on 4x4." (page 7 on 2012 .pdf).

Recently I purchased the Factory Service Manual CD and it only talks about the four channel.

Since my 2WD WK2 also has traction controll called out on the option sheet, this did not make sense (...brake pressure is applied to the slipping wheel(s)...) - page 465 2012 OM 5th ed)

Looking at the ABS unit it certainly looks like the four channel shown in the FSM (see picture).

Could someone from CJF please clear this up once and for all ?

Does anyone with a 2WD Jeep GC have an ABS unit with three output lines instead of four ? (I believe the two larger ones on the right are the input lines from the M/C and the four on the left are to each wheel.)

Clueless ?

Same thing I told you in your other thread, look at your wheels to see if you have wheel speed sensors at all 4 hubs. Your abs module shows 4 channel though.

Re: ABS: 4 channel or 3 ?

My Reattae are three channel (Teves MK II: common rear hydraulic line) but have a sensor at all four wheels so the number of sensors is not a discriminator.

I *suspect* all WK2s are really four channel since traction control in a 2WD would not be effrective with a single rear but would really like to hear it from Chrysler.

I asked TechAuthority about it but their response so far has avoided the question.

Looking in the parts listing (can search and print unlike the FSM) the only difference in the hydraulic unit is whether you have regular or adaptive cruise control. Also the rear brake lines do not distinguish between 2WD and 4WD.

So it appears that all WK2s with ABS are really four channel despite what the spec sheet says but would really like to hear from Chrysler (Milhous ?) or if anyone has a 2WD ABS with only three output lines.

My thought is that this would be a selling point and a Good Thing. YWTK

Interesting discussion! May I ask where you went to purchase the 2014 Service Manual? Thanks in advance.

TechAuthority now has the CD for 2011-2013. No 2014 yet but suspect much other than the 8 speed is the same as '13. 2012 CD includes 3.0 CRD info.

Requires Windows & Internet Explorer but graphics plugin does not work with Windows 8 or IE 10 (they have promised a fix RSN).

About 330 MB for $165 (delivered). Not the most expensive though. Modern times

I find it annoying (no search or print & oddball graphics) but essential (has information not otherwise available).

Added to the 300 MB I had already collected from open sources on options, wiring, parts lists, option codes it makes a pretty complete picture.

Interestig. I asked TechAuthority about the issue in the Factory Service Manual CD and got this reply "Mopar TechAuthority is an e-Store dedicated only to the sale of owner’s manuals, subscriptions, and training material for Chrysler branded vehicles".

In other worrds TA cannot answer questions about discrepancies (like where to get the wiring diagrams that are referenced but not included) in the service manual. Does anyone know who can ?
