Got hit and run today! WTF!

Went to the grocery store this afternoon during my lunch and came out to this...

Needless to say I was fuming mad! I talked to the store manager and they checked the cameras and they did not have a good shot of my car or the area of the parking lot I was in...fail.

I did get a chance to clean it up a bit and a good bit of the damage was paint/plastic that rubbed off the other car. The portion I wasn't able to do anything about is clear through all of the paint and down to the plastic. Any thoughts on how I should get this fixed? Just touch it up and leave it be or would it be worth having a body shop fix it? Anyone have similar damage and gotten it fixed? What was the cost?

That's a bummer. At least it cleaned up pretty nicely.

For an area that small you could attempt a touch-up job yourself and see how it turns out. Around here that'd run somewhere around $100 to repair at a shop, not bad at all. Good luck with it all. Some people ...

yah, i'm glad I was able to get it cleaned up. I'm actually just over in Bellevue. Any recommendations on a body shop?

My wife has a honda with similar rub marks... was about $400 to repair at body shop... we passed for now.

I had a much bigger area when I backed into my neighbors car, whoops. It was about 350 to have mine fixed. About two grand for hers LOL.

You could hide those with either Dr Colorchip or EZ Chip Repair. Won't be perfect but it will help hide it.

Towing package really re-enforces the back end. Ford 150 just folded around it when I was rearended. Have wondered if leaving the hitch in the receiver and sticking out about 8 inches would keep others away or make you liable.

Anyone know how far something must be sticking out to need a red flag ? Have seen 1-2 feet mentioned. Suppose you could paint the ball mount the proper shade of red....

I've thought about doing the same thing. I park on the street at work and have had almost every car I've owned hit at some point over the last 8 years (all hit-and-runs, except for the time the police Tahoe backed into my Mustang and the officer denied it ).

As for the flag, I've also heard 1-2 feet mentioned.

Agreed on using Dr. Color Chip. I had to use this on a few chips I had from parking lot morons and it came out ok for touch up paint. Probably worth a shot on your Jeep for an inexpensive fix.

Oh nice!

My recommendation? Evergreen Auto Rebuild: Evergreen Auto Rebuild, Inc. - Kirkland, WA

They're in Totem Lake just off 124th so pretty close to you. I've had work done there several times over the years. Including a very small patch job similar to yours on one of my brand new cars that was hit and run as well.

My hitch ball is on my JGC 100% of the time...and since it's a shiny chrome 2 5/16" ball, it's pretty darn visible! If someone actually is looking... ;)

OP, bummer on the damage. I understand the feeling as I had my previous vehicle receive similar damage at an airport valet parking facility two days after I got it back after a month of driving a rental from getting $26K of damage repaired from a "sandwich" accident. Parking lots, no matter what kind, are sadly fraught with risks...and people too often drive through them like they are super highways.

I feel your pain man, same thing happen to my truck last month, dented my rear bumper and pushed it into the paint. From now on I'm parking far away taking two spots at an angle...Defensive parking!
