99 cherokee sport
My jeep was running just fine, just had it in the shop getting new brakes on it. 3 weeks later, I go to a meeting at work, an hour later walk out to leave, jeep won't start, turns over though. Its been at the shop for a week and they still do not know for sure what it is, they are thinking the computer. It's getting no spark and the fuel pump wouldn't turn on either (they hot wired the pump to check and it works). Has anyone had any computer replacements on their jeep? I've gotten quotes from $300-$3,000 and i'm trying to see if it's even worth fixing.

Re: 99 cherokee sport
Welcome to the garage.
I donīt know if the shop whos working on it has experience on jeeps.
On the 4.0 engine there is a big cable bundle running around the aft side of the head, which can shave through on a bolt head and cause a short. Donīt say that this is the problem, but could be worth to check (if not already done).
Do you have the idea that the shop knows what its doing, or are they at a total loss?
If the PCM (the engine computer) really has to be changed, then there are repair shops for it as well. Just google it. Eventually a used PCM should not be too difficult to find.

Re: 99 cherokee sport
has the crank position sensor been checked?

Re: 99 cherokee sport
They changed the crank shaft sensor because it wasn't coming up on the computer when they checked it. Two days later I'm driving down the highway and the engine shuts off, has a very difficult time starting and at times when the car shuts off the engine will start to shake. They are reffering me to someone with more electrical experience. Check engine light is on, code reads for the vaccum.

Re: 99 cherokee sport
id check the vacuum lines in the rear of the vehicle next to the gas tank. Common for them to break. But this shouldn't affect your driveability.

Re: 99 cherokee sport
The metal section of the vacuum line running along the driver's side undercarriage that connects to the compression chamber of the fuel delivery system is prone to rusting out causing such symptoms. Hard to diagnose but a cheap fix...

Mine did the exact same thing. Jiggled a few wires and it started right up. Hasn't done it again
