Blend Door Issue?
Hi all! Iíve been using the priceless information in this forum for the past few years to fix the issues with my WK, and havenít had to ask a question until now. I have a 2009 Jeep grand Cherokee (3.7L 6 cyl, Rocky Mountain Edition). Iíve been experiencing some issues with the HVAC system. When I have the AC on or the defroster on and set to cold, there is hot air blowing out of the floor vents on both the passenger and driver sides. Also, prior to this, I noticed that air would be coming in through the vent I had the system set to prior to turning it to the off position. The temperature of the air would be the same I had the climate control knob set to as well. Additionally, on windy days I hear a flapping noise almost like a spring loaded door opening and shutting behind the glove compartment. This only seems to occur when the vehicle is parked and off. Any ideas on what this might be? Iím leaning toward the blend doors but Iíd rather get your input before ripping the dash apart. Thanks in advance for your help on this!!!

Re: Blend Door Issue?
Sounds like a blend door actuator took a crap on you. Or its broken. The best way to find this is to work the mode knob on the a/c unit, listen for the actuator thats moving.. Remove the actuator and check if the door is broken by manually moving it around.

Hi and thanks for the info! I just tried adjusting the mode knob as you instructed and I can hear something moving behind the glove compartment. Are the actuator arms and motor accessible without removing the glove compartment?

Re: Blend Door Issue?
Its possible, I've never had to dig behind my jeep. Chances are you'll have to remove the glovebox or get up under there and have someone move the mode knob as your under there feeling around.

A last resort thing you could do is get a scan through the dealer. They use starscan and the HVAC module should be throwing a code. It sucks to spend the money to do that, but it will save you a bunch of time.
