Next 2014 GC Service due at 1000 miles.

When I picked up my GC I got a sticker from the service department that my next service should be at 1000 miles. Anyone know why that is?

It's a way to suck money out of your pocket. There is no "1000 mile service interval"...

That is what I was thinking. I just was not sure if I had to being it in to get stuff re tightened after the truck settled.

Changing the oil on a new engine around 1000 miles is a good idea. I do it on every new engine. Waiting 10k miles for the first oil change is crazy, IMO...

I know right! I'm on trip right now from Atlanta to Chicago. I have planned to change it when I get back to Atlanta next week. Going to switch the oil to synthetic which I think is better for the 10000 mile interval these new engines have now days.

I run Mobil 1 synthetic in just about everything. I used to use Amsoil but it got to be pretty expensive. You can get a 5 qt jug, 2 single qts, and a Mopar filter at Walmart for under $50. Even lower when the jugs are on sale.

I run Mobil 1 synthetic as well. Just found the new filters online for 8 bucks and i get the oil at Costco when they have the 5 quarts on sale for 26 bucks. Usually buy 2 cases. So 35ish bucks for a synthetic oil change is not bad at all.

Unless Costco packaging changed, I got the Mobil 1 5W-20 in a box of 6 quarts. But that's probably what you meant to say.

That's what I meant to day. My fingers are too big for my iPhone keyboard. But yes, it's 6 quarts.

I've never heard of a manufacturer suggesting a first oil change after only 1,000 miles. Is this something Jeep is recommending as per their warranty? 3,000 miles sounds more realistic. When in Rome...

I was told that my first oil change would be at 6,000 miles. Does that sound right to everyone here?

Depending on your driving habits ... possibly.

Believe what the EVIC and owner's manual tell you. There is such a wide range of suggestions that guessing who is right is a crap shoot.

Some folks still think they are living in the 1950's. Some are too cheap to change the oil when it really needs it. The manufacturer wants the engine to last without calling for excessive maintenance. That seems like the best balance.
