just got new wheels :/

hello all

i just picked up a set of used srt8 replicas , the fronts have 225/45/20's and the rears have 295/40/20's the guy who sold them to me told me i would be fine but it just does not make sense to me and im a lil worried about my awd system.... am i ok?

NO. I would not run them. With an AWD system the width can differ with no damage or worry. The height CANNOT be different or it will start to tear stuff up.
The 225/45/20 is 28 inches x 8.9 inches.
The 295/40/20 is 29.3 inches x 11.6 inches.

An easy way from now on to check tire sizes is just to google "Metric Tire Conversion Calculator."
So you can go for the stance'd look (winder in the rear) if you want, just be sure that you check that the overall height is the same.

I ran staggered srt wheels for three years on my jeep and it had no problems. others have done it longer than me with no problems either

Staggered and width does not matter but the over all height should be the same.

Not sure about QT, but I know if you have Quadradrive II, it will damage the components if all 4 tires are not the same height.

Staggered is fine. I am sure that your tires have the same height, however.

They both use the same NV245 transfercase, its a problem for both ;)

Just like everyone else has kind of said. Its not about width of the tire, this doesn't matter in an AWD system. What matters is the overall ride height of the tire, they have to be the same so the rotation speed of all wheels is the same. Heres the math:

225/45/20 = 27.97 in
295/40/20 = 29.29 in

The 295's are a whole 1.32" taller then the 225's. I would say a slight variation, maybe withing a 1/4", would be fine as exact ride height can differ with different manufacturers and tread designs. However, your tire size difference is cause concern.

Basically in an AWD situation the limited slip mechanisms that keep all wheels from spinning in slick conditions can get confused due to different tire sizes and react as if some of the wheels are slipping. Not to mention the extra stress it will put on mechanical parts in the drive train.

Get the same tire size all around...
