Bad experience with Protofab bumpers
Bought KOR stealth bumpers front and rear for my lifted 2003 wj from Kevins off road along with some cut out bushwhacker flares from someone else. Bumpers are fabricated by Protofab of Arizona.
The bumpers were delivered a month late. Finish was terrible, bumpers arrived rusted, no jack holes in rear as advertised, front shackle mounts could not fit 3/4" shackles. After beadblasting and painting them I delivered them and my flares to my installer.
My installer, 10 locations, installing lifts, bumpers since 76, could not fit the bumpers. They contacted Mike Wiley of Protofab, he was derisive, dismissive and rude to my mechanic. He basically told them it was up to them to fit them.
Mike Wiley never answered one email or voicemail I left him.
Kevin of Kevins off road helped my mechanic with numerous calls,
As a metal fabricator with 30 years experience as well as a business owner, I will never understand the complete lack of ethics, pride of workmanship or the complete lack of concern on the part of Mike Wiley and Protofab.
It galls me that my beautiful rugged wj has Protofab laser cut into the gas tank skid plate for all to see, the very last thing I want is to encourage another jeep owner to do business with Protofab.
If you are considering purchasing a Protofab product please reconsider or consider yourself forewarned of shoddy build quality and a complete absence of customer service.
Re: Bad experience with Protofab bumpers
That's a bugger to hear but the rig sounds good. Where are the pics.
I've just come across a similar issue on a smaller scale with the Blue Torch Fab DIY diff covers. Made my own rear as I have access to a waterjet cutter. Made it in 2 pieces, accurately bent it up and welded it out. don't have acess to same waterjet anymore so thought the front DIY cover from BTF would be easier and quicker and will match mine quite well. They do it in 5 pieces for some strange reason and all the bends are going to have to be tweaked before it fits together properly enough to be welded.
