SKIS problem

Hi all, i just bought an 02 cherokee. The guy i bought it from had to replace the transmission. When finished the car would go forward and reverse but not upshift. This is not the problem i'm trying to deal with though. After the tranny replacement and subsequent problem he left the jeep sitting and the battery died. When he went to restart it (after charging the battery), it wouldn't start. The skis light;key with line through it is on solid. Not blinking. Is there anything i can do to fix this without going to dealer? thanks Paul

Re: SKIS problem

If the problem is the skis, it will normally start and then die in a few seconds. But did you try an other key first?

Re: SKIS problem

According to the workshop manual a permanently lit SKIS light indicates a fault with the SKIS system or that the SKIS system is inoperative.

Yeh, i think i messed that one up, it will start and shut down after a few seconds when it doesn´t see a valid key.
You will need a DRBIII scanner or equivalent to see what is faulty.

Re: SKIS problem

Found the problem. It wasn't an SKIS problem after all. It was the crank sensor shorting out. Thanks for the responses.

Re: SKIS problem

That is interresting to know. What made you go for the crank sensor?
Wondering why the SKIS is indicating a fault in this case. Should have something to do with the communication between the SKIM and PCM.
