high speed shimmy?

after installing my new brake rotors, i'm getting a slight shimmy in the steering wheel between 65 and 80 MPH.

Any ideas? what bolts i should check?

Re: high speed shimmy?

when you hit the brake or all the time?

Re: high speed shimmy?

all the time, the brakes are definately not warped.

How did you tighten the lug nuts? Torque wrench using OEM specs or air gun?

You may have overtightened the lugs by a lot.

or improper balance ???

Re: high speed shimmy?

i'll check the lug nuts, what is the factory torque spec?

all 4 tires were balanced before they went on, so i cant imagine that they are imbalanced.

Re: high speed shimmy?

sounds like the rotors are out of balance...which can happen with rotors

Did you break them in yet?

Re: high speed shimmy?

maybe the rotors just need to break in... wil the rotors wear "into" balance?

or do i have to do something else?

Re: high speed shimmy?

Rotors won't true themselves, I would start in the rear. Usually something felt at >50mph is a problem in the rear. Make sure you cleaned all the rusted crap off the hub with a wire brush.

Re: high speed shimmy?

contact the seller and tell them you have a shimmy since you installed them

Re: high speed shimmy?

how can i tell which rotor it may be?

The shimmy feels like it is comming from the front, the way i feel it in the wheel makes me think that. I may be wrong tho.
