Air bag light

The Air Bag Light has been on ever since i bought my lovely Jeep and i've heard a lot of people say that a common problem with my Jeep is the clockspring but i don't wanna fork out $160 part and it be something else so is there any other reasons why i can get this light?

Re: Air bag light

The Airbag Control Module monitors the system for continuity. So any break in a wire or faulty component could turn on the light. Using the DRBIII scanner could shed more light on what the problem is, but indeed in many cases the clockspring is the faulty part. But it could also be the ACM, one of the airbags squibs or the belt tensioner squibs.

Can a DRBIII scanner tell me if it would be those things you listed? if i where to go to a jeep dealer do you think they would charge me to get my car scanned by the DRBIII scanner?

Re: Air bag light

The DRBIII for sure can access the ACM memory and check for faults. The stealer for sure will ask you a contribution for the use of their DRBIII:mad:.
A garage here in my town is using an other type of scanner which can access also all systems in my jeep, so you could ask around with some local guys to see if they have such type of scanner and scan it for less.

Eventhough the power to the horn goes through the clockspring, it uses a different circuit then for the airbag. So i donīt think necessarely the horn will be affected. Attached an opened up clockspring (not from a jeep, but just as an example), where you can see the circuit wires in the winded up tape. One could break or the connection of the wire at the end could get loose without effect to the other circuits. Ofcourse it could be that the whole tape breaks, but then you loose radio controls, cruise control, horn and steering wheel airbag.
