Really?!?!...

I wanted to vent about is how i have my nine month old 2013 in the shop AGAIN. Thats fine and all because i will not be paying a dime. But i asked my service advisor what i should do with the truck...should i trade it in or not.... and get the 14.

and i quote:

"what do you want a 2014?!?!, those things have MAJOR issues", now i know that it's NOT ALL 14 jeep grand cherokees and im not trying to make people with 2014s feel bad.. im simply venting at the fact that jeep has been having so many problems and such low quality control. They rush these trucks out to the people and just expect the people to keep dealing with the problems.

Something needs to change, Im just venting and i think that there is definitely something wrong with the fact that the service advisor is telling me not to trade in the truck solely based on the fact that they are having even more problems with the 14s.

just thought i would share, Lastly i would like to add that i do LOVE my jeep when she is acting right and i want nothing more to keep it but im just getting fed up with dealer trip after dealer trip. Thanks guys for listening :)

The recall has nothing to do with the 2014's or the WK2 at all: Recall: 469,072 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Commander Models for Transmission Programming - WOT on Motor Trend

No worries. When I was in with the finance person at my dealership, and she was trying to sell me the extra three month warranty on the lease, I said I'd take my chances. She looked right at me and said, "so you've never owned a Jeep before?"

And I got the impression she wasn't just trying to sell me something.

I took the three months. :-)

Honestly this is my 7th or 8th Jeep and I've never had a major issue. Had my 2014 for about 6 weeks and there hasn't been a single issue. I really feel badly for the folks that have had problems but I don't think you can make a blanket statement about Jeep.

Re: Really?!?!...

If you notice most of the issues relate to electrical systems. As the electronics get ever smaller form factors and the wiring goes to smaller gauges you increase the likelihood of anomalous effects from surges, spikes, race conditions, internodal capacitance, and noise.

Computer cars have been around for over three decades now and every year more is packed into a smaller space. My 88 takes nine computer modules and a serial LAN to do what is in three components now.

Perhaps wearing hearing aids has made me more aware of this since they pick up all kinds of electrical noise (if you could hear what is going on in an airliner you might understand why no cell phones in flight - in inductive it is painful.

Funny thing is that with all of my computer cars, the major failure modes are mecanical e.g. sensors with damaged pickups and not electrical.

Now it may be that we are just seeing the failures here and rarely cars with none but I am concernd that eletrical failures seem to be getting short thrift, replace the failed components without much concern about why (could be rong, am sure Chrysler is paying much more attention to the failed Pentastar heads than they have ever admitted publicly, they might have a special task force studying such.)

Personally am surprised they did not just replace a few of these cars so engineering could study them and find out what is going on but maybe they already know.

My '12 is like yours, only issue has been a cruise control that likes to go faster than set but then it has minimal electronics compared to the '14s.

There is a recent recall of the earlier generation seems to be a cracked circuit board for dual range transfer cases. Of course the media is just saying GCs go into neutral on startup (could be nasty with a remote starter, good reason to also use the parking brake) but drilling down to which and why is in the small print.

Is really a good example, the '14 have fully automagic shifting now and one poster mentioned suddently being in neutral from drive. Hopefully PARK still has a mechanical interlock.

So is therereally a problem ? DId some cars get out with bad critical grounds ? Only time will tell.

I was simply quoting what my service guy said to me. I have not had any electrical problems but I did have had mechanical.Like I said in the post I know that not all jeeps have the issues but to be honest a good amount of them have simple quality control issues i.e. mis aligned doors, hatches, fenders and different suspension problems (I saw at the auto show! and on dealer lots). Just saying that I feel instead of rushing out these 14s they should have done more testing on the electronics.....

Yes, I can verify that when pulling out of the driveway, and later down the road, my Jeep suddenly popped into neutral. I only realized it because I was on the accelerator pedal and the engine started racing and I realized I was suddenly out of gear.

My wife sometimes stops at the house to pick something up when running errands, and if my kid is sleeping in the car she'll just leave him there for a minute in the driveway with the car running rather than wake him up, then she'll go back out and on with her errands.

That's something I don't feel comfortable doing anymore without understanding more about how this car works when something goes wrong -- can it shift INTO gear as easily as it pops out?

This is what I mean when I say I just don't trust this car anymore. I'm afraid I could suddenly find myself in gear, heading toward the house across the street while I was tuning the radio in my driveway before heading out.

Might sound ridiculous to some of you, but if you had been what I've been through with this car...

Based on what I read on here, you couldn't pay me to take a 2014 .

Re: Really?!?!...

WOW, so just a few posts on a forum designed to allow people to vent about problems will turn you off buying one ?
You should not read any forums then, as you will never find a place where everyone is happy about their cars.
It has been said to death on every car forum, that you cannot judge the reliability of a car based on a very small % of owners, many who find these places when they do have a problem.
As for the service adviser steering you clear of the '14, he may have just had a bad day. It is still way to early to tell the quality of this model, but going by any mass produced product, there will be issues. Just hope they are not common.

 You have not stated yr and model involved in this incident so your comments don't mean much to anyone reading them.;)
