2014 Grand Cherokee Air Conditioning Problem

I have just purchased a 2014 GC Overland. When I have the A/C running (fan on low) I notice that there is a intermintant sound that sounds like an increase in power but no increase in air flow through the vents. I took it to the dealership and they identified that the compressor is cycling too quickly and that the pressure was slightly low. They re-charged the A/C systerm and stated that it was fixed. The problem seemed to be fixed but after driving it for a while I noticed the same problem. I took it to the dealer for the second time and they insisted that this was normal operation. Does anybody else have this symptom? Is this normal?

My 2014 Summit a/c isn't as cold as my previous 2012 Overland. I posted in another thread that the air temp out of the center vent was only 49 degrees when the outside ambient temp was 78. It's supposed to be colder than that at idle.

I may just have to hook up the manifold gauges and check the pressures and if needed (no doubt it does), add some 134a to the system. Because I'm positive the dealer will say its operating as designed. A standard line they learn in training.

The a/c is a sealed system. Unless it wasn't charged properly at the factory, if they had to recharge it and didn't repair the leak, it will just get worse.

Of course without sitting in your car it's hard to tell if it seems to be recycling too often.

My main concern is the sound that comes from the vents when the A/C is turned on. It seems to happen as soon as the A/C cycle starts. Every 10-15 seconds it seems that more air is passing through the vents for about 1-2 seconds and them goes to normal. The sound is annoying and I never had a A/C that sounded like this before. Since the dealer said it was "normal" I was just wondering if anybody else can hear this sound/ if there A/C cycles on and off every 10-15 seconds.

Of possibly equal or greater importance, has anyone noticed that the air conditioning doesn't seem to run when you're in AUTO mode? The light on the AC button doesn't go on, but if you push the AC button the system swaps out of AUTO mode. That can't be right.

In mine, on auto, the AC is still working, it just turns off the AC button light.

Same here but I have to agree AC is rather weak. My 12 year old Pathfinder blows colder air than Jeep. Also it seems like it is sluggish to react to temperature changes in Auto mode. Again seems like the Auto system was MUCH better in my 12 year old Pathfinder.

Even when the temps hit upper 80's here last week my Jeep kept comfortable, but I agree, it's not the most powerful a/c system. Passengers in the rear seat complained at first, but it cooled down eventually for them. My Enclave's a/c is like a refrigeration unit next to the Jeep's.

Auto works with the temp change you set. To test auto change your numbers to low, wait for car to cool then bring it up to temp like 68 and see if auto responds to the request. I just took a trip this weekend and the AC was on for a good hour (at 60) with recirc(max) on and it barley kept the car cool with the dog panting in the back. the outside temp was only 79.
Coming back it worked completely different same settings. These vehicles have a mind of their own. I never had any issues with my 2011 :(

Chrysler should have left the HVAC system alone from the 11-13's but I guess with the new electrical architecture in the 14's, they had to mess things up. Now it will take them at least a year to sort it out.

Not what someone living in Phoenix, AZ wants to hear.

Personally the system has trouble keeping up during high 70's weather. Not sure what will happen when we will hit high 90's. Will check pressure when I will get home.
