Want to buy 2014 GC Need Help

Hey guys I am hoping one of you can explain a little better than the dealership attempted to with my problem. My wife and I just went to a Jeep dealership in New Orleans to see about leasing a new JGC. After what seemed like forever back and forth with salesperson and his manager we finally received a price of $31,000 for a Laredo E with 8.4a Uconnect upgraded to navigation. Then we got to talking about my trade. I currently have a 2006 Lexus is250 and after their 'appraisal' they said they would pay $11,000. I told them this would not work because I owed more than that ($13,000). So off he went again to his manager and came back with an offer that would pay off my current loan. Now this is where I became a little confused because his estimate for a $31,000 leased was $529 per month. I am just a little confused on how it came to such a high number. Can someone explain how the trade-in works if they give me the exact number I owe on a trade. I thought as long as you were not upside down then it would not add to your total selling price.

Sorry for the long post, but I am very confused by the whole process. Thanks in advance for any feedback on the situation.

Also, do you guys think that is a good deal at $31,000 or do you think I shouldnt be to bummed and keep looking? This will be my very first Jeep so if you have any suggestions I am all ears. Thanks again for any help.

It does seem to be a bit high at 529, but that might be with nothing down and them giving you an extra 2 grand for your trade would also bring that number up. I haven't checked into leasing for a long time, so I know others will be able to chime in with more info.

Perhaps, but putting the extra $2000 on to the final price isn't really giving me what I want for my trade. Anyone know how the jeep.com estimator works? I only ask because for the hell of it I went and built a 2014 GC Overland with a total price of $45000 and 0 down and it only came to $590 (according to their payment calculator). Same term lease and same miles per year.

Like I said earlier though this would be my first lease so I am new to the whole game, but I thought it was typically cheaper per month than buying.

You still have taxes on top of that price, so that number could go up by $40 to 50 depending on your states taxes.

Is selling the Lexus privately an option? Keeps the figures clean and to the point with the jeep so you know exactly what's what.

Discuss the trade-in and Jeep purchase as two separate deals, so they can't add more to your trade and then turn around and add it to the price of he Jeep. And while I can't comment on whether or not $529 for a lease is good or bad, you should be able to decipher it for yourself by scrutinizing the paperwork.

I am not exactly sure how the lease works, but in my opinion something is off there, to me it doesn't add up. Try to discuss each piece separate with them or another dealer. Do you know what your trade-in is worth (kbb, nada)?

Basically I see you're paying ~31k with nothing down, since they are paying off your is250. What was the term on the lease? It just looks like they are adding whatever they give you on the trade to the price of the Jeep.

As far as the price, is 8.4 the only option? I think it would be possible to do a bit better, unless there is nobody else in the area.

Seems way too high. I pay less than what you are being offered for a leased Summit.

First Think twice if you should lease REMEMBER it is vey hard to get out of a lease and the costs are sky high..
You should go to another dealer to see about trading your IS in and see about a 60 month loan.

How long was this lease going to be . How about miles per year. be VERY careful and if you do decide to lease read and ask at the end of the lease what will you have to pay and for what. Some will charge up to 800 just to hand it in.What about over miles and conditions at hand it time .

Get all this info and answers BEFORE you sign anything!!!

Like I said hit a few dealers to price out to see if you are getting a good deal.

Also the final residual price at lease end can be discussed as well

Re: Want to buy 2014 GC Need Help

You need to read up on how leases work. There are 3 numbers you need to know when trying to calculate how much you'll pay and whether you're getting a good deal or not.

The selling price. That's your negotiated price - $31k
The money factor: this is equivalent to an interest rate/2400
The residual: the percentage of MSRP the car is worth at lease end.

Your monthly payments work out to be the difference between the selling price and the residual value divided by the number of months in the lease plus taxes and interest.

That said, $529 sounds ridiculously high for a $31k truck. Get those numbers and if they won't give them to you, walk away.

They're still only giving you $11,000 for your trade. Their first offer. That's too low. Tell them what you want for your trade (it should be $1,000 above KBB trade price at least, or walk.)

Ya, you are going to pay way to much. I would have them right down all the numbers for this and look them over. If you think they are screwing you, walk away. No matter how much you want to get the vehicle, keep everything in your favor. For the price of the vehicle, you should be getting invoice or 1% under.
